it seems that the commercial breaks on every channel on tv are getting longer and longer... sometime eleven commercials in a row. This is really not acceptable. Does it seem the same way to you....

The final choice is in your hands...and that is to turn the tv OFF. It's not going to get any better and complaining won't help. If you are a shut-in and tv is your only entertainment you could at least press the MUTE button so you won't have to listen to the garbage.

Or record your fav shows then fast forward thru commercials, and enjoy only the show.

Yes, I’m excited to sprinklerize the building and wade through mountains of permits/fees before finally getting to the kitchen :-) Oh, and I’ve realized that an architect’s job is in part like a lawyer’s . . . lots of reading code and finding ways to do and not do things. For example, I used my city’s ” online permit estimator “ and saw, with alarm, that there will be $40,000 in transportation “system development charges” (basically a fee on new/remodel construction, in theory meant to pay for increased load on city infrastructure but in reality also simply a city bureau funding mechanism). So I dug through the code and found an exemption for remodel and change of use of less than 3,000 sf. Because it is an exemption you have to know about and affirmatively claim, I guess it’s not enabled by default in the estimator. My architect knows about it, I’m sure, but I’m trying to be educated. I haven’t found such an exemption for the other bureau SDCs, which means I’ll have to pay around $15,000 for plumbing fixtures and water/sewer connections that already exist. The fire sprinklers are not absolutely required, but will obviate other fire safety work (1 hour rated fire separation, additional exits from upper floors) which could then trigger accessibility work (ADA access and bathrooms) not otherwise required, and allow more flexibility in usage of the upper floors. Since it is a 113 y/o wood structure, I think fire sprinklers will also help with insurance.

Why is commercial potting soil so low quality these days?

I bought two bags of potting soil this season. One was almost as hard as concrete when it became open to air - it was more like top soil than potting soil. The other looked like ground-up landscaping tree bark. The first bag was True Living brand, and the second was Expert Gardener.

What stone is it? Not all "granites" should be sealed - most Absolute Blacks, for example, should not be sealed. Very dense stones will not take up sealer. If they are sealed, the sealant will often sit on top and create a "haze" over the stone. On the other hand, less dense stones usually need to be sealed at least annually, sometimes every 4 to 6 months. Which do you have? I don't know what poultice to use, but Chispa is right. Maybe some stone experts will chime in (although, sadly, we don't seem to have many of them on the Forum anymore 😔).

It is very annoying. We mute the TV and wait or do something else until the program starts again.

I record everything and fast-forward through it later. It's not perfect, but it's better than sitting through the increasing amount of commercials.

I Block Them Out Mentally, like I do with my wife! LOL I don't really block out my wife, but I do have a way to mentally block out the commercials though. I'm blocking them out right now!

That's why I never watch any program live that has commercials. Everything I am interested in is programmed into my DVR. Programs with commercials are typically about 42 minutes long and the rest is ads and other filler. If I am anxious to watch something, I'll typically start the program on my DVR about 15 minutes after it airs and I'll be done watching it about the time it ends after having sped through all the crapola with my remote.

Yes, I agree. Have to mute the TV during commercials. What's odd is that often it's hard to tell, even if you watch closely, just what/who is being advertised, or often the advertisement seems to have little/nothing to do w/the "product".

Eventually I'll prb'ly go w/Hulu, Netflix or something.

Yes...I have to admit that my fast forward and reverse skills with the remote get a lot of exercise when trying to avoid commercials with my recorded shows... ;-)

Hulu & Hulu plus have commercials for their network shows. They do have an (more money) to opt out of commercials.

We have Netflix, I have no idea if there are commercials on the Network Shows or not? My wife and Daughter watch a lot on Netflix, I watch our Frontier FIOS TV most of the time. I have all of the Movie Channels. Also have a VUDU Account that I can watch my movies on too, have over 60 movies, my son had around 370. I have access to both accounts so I can watch his movies too. Between my son and I, we have well over 1,000 movies on DVD & Blu-Ray. Really no need to watch Network TV unless it's really something I want to watch.
