Thermador Commercial Depth Ranges

Hi,

If anyone out there has a Thermador Pro Grand commercial depth range (27" deep), I'd be curious to hear about how it fits with your base cabinets. I suppose my questions are...

Did you increase the depth of your base cabinetry beyond 24" to accommodate the deeper range?

If not, does the range stick out a lot - might you have a photo you could share?

And finally, if one were to increase the base cabinet depth to accommodate the range, would that make it impossible to replace the Thermador down the road? I suppose you could probably add some counter material behind the range, but I'm not sure.

Here is the photo from my showroom. Its in a 24" deep base cabinet. It sticks out almost 5" to the front of the door and a little more for the handle and knobs. All of the installs I have seen have built the cabinets out at last to 27" deep in that space to cover the extension of the door.

Our ranges are also deeper than standard, and as Joe is showing, we recommend that the cabinetry does not go past the oven door seal. The oven door and handles stick out, but I haven't heard any complaints on that aspect.

Most of our customers either go with a full run of 26-27" deep cabinets where the range is, or include a nice design feature (like a post) on either side to bring out the countertop and compensate for the extra depth.

One example here , from a recent installation. This customer chose a full-width drawer on either side, that "reduces" back to standard depth after that.

If you opt for deeper cabinets and need to replace the range with a "regular depth" unit, you could simply add a strip of countertop or SS behind the new range to bring it out.

The big things that stood out for us were that the Thermador simmer entails the burners clicking on & off over & over & over--gets very annoying especially if your kitchen is open to your family room vs. the Wolf that has the double stacked burners that are able to simmer using a continuous low flame. As far as the ovens, I can only comment on the Thermador--don't know if it's still a problem, but after about 5 years, the control panel slowly dies until you can't see what you have set the ovens to and you cannot see the time or timer anymore & the self-clean fried the electronics (as has been reported on many self-clean ovens). Even though the control panel issue has happened to many, many customers Thermador does not acknowledge the problem so you have to pay for the part + an authorized tech to come out 2x to verify that's what's wrong, then order the part then 2nd visit to install. Other than those issues, it bakes, roasts & broils beautifully. Have you looked at the GE Monogram rangetop? It has the higher power burners (all burners vs. having different BTUs on different burners) + it has the double stacked burners and allows for super low simmering like the Wolf. That's why we opted for Monogram and love it so far!

Thanks for the moderately dreadful tip! To be honest, I do not know if the Ontario building code or if the City of Toronto has a by-law on this ( I know there are noise restrictions in the city of Toronto, I think measured at or about the source/ external vent/ external blower) . I suspect, but do not know, that as there is a 'wee bit' of a condo boom, with some condos using gas stoves as a selling feature, the building industry has been successful in keeping these air replacement devices out of the building code- does not mean that it is not a good idea. It is possible (but I do not know) that the forced air HVAC system has a built -in pressurization equalization device. . . . trying hard to not make this a $10,000 project. Oh well, beats dying of carbon monoxide poisoning!

Does anyone have this range (or similar)? Likes, dislikes? Pros, cons? Model: PRD486GDHU 48 inch Professional Series Pro Harmony Standard Depth Dual Fuel Range PRD486GDHU Does anyone have the Pro Grand or Pro Grand Steam range? I've never wanted a warming drawer and doubt we would use the steam oven feature often, so doubt I would get either but comments are welcome. I've always hated the way our current dual fuel range (GE Monogram) sticks out further than the cabinets and would love the Harmony since it's counter depth. Will continue with 6 burners and a griddle. Need the large and small ovens, so smaller not an option. (I do not want wall oven(s).) This is for possible new lakehouse (LP gas). Thanks Michelle. My designer would like me to choose the appliances so he can proceed with the final specs on the cabinets. I heard the new Thermador ranges will be out in Jan 2019 from a salesman so that is a bit too far out. I wish there were some floor models available in the refrigeration as I do like what I have read about them thus far but again price is a bit more than I had budgeted out for the project. This is why I went with the counter-depth option for refrigeration given I can save a few thousand here and still have a decent range.

I chose not to increase the depth of my cabinets. One of my ovens is steam and I was concerned about all the steam adjacent to the cabinet wood. This is the best picture I have of the range profile:

This post was so incredibly helpful. The last photo confirmed my decision to move forward with the range with steam. Our cabinets are 24 1/2 inch deep so it will be fine. Thanks
