Weather report says it is sunny here and not raining...LIARS!
Comments (6)Sob! Hardly anything left at Menards. I had to hunt all over the store, too. ItâÂÂs like they were all in Christmas product mode already. I had to ask 3 timesâ¦IâÂÂm sure I was sent to where they WERE, at one time. One young thing, when I asked for âÂÂBulbs...like tulips and daffodilsâÂÂ, STILL sent me to light bulbs. IâÂÂm guessing she did not know what my kind of bulb WAS. To think, last year I made out like a bandit there. Only a few packs of uninteresting bright yellow lilies, and some solid dark pink tulips. Blah. When I expressed disappointment, though, one more eager clerk outside showed me to a decorative display someone had set up to advertise fall planting season. She said they sold out very quickly this year. There in a basket were a few more interesting things. I DID get one package of Little Princess, and Allium oreophilum. I was hoping for Little Beautyâ¦I bought some a few years back when Scheepers had them: they are really charming. It would have been the perfect color for a new bed I have with a lot of purple/silver/pink heucheras. With the orange tones of Little Princess: IâÂÂm not sure where I will put those. It doesnâÂÂt go with ay color scheme I have running. But I couldnâÂÂt leave them behind, now, could I? I'd too late to start planting today, though: have to hope for a warm day later in the week....See Moresunny day spruces
Comments (24)Bluespruce is right, it's not 'Blue Sapphire', also not 'Blue Saphir' but 'Blue Safir', it's found as a witches'broom at the Malik Nursery, Czech Republic. Almost everyone has misspeld this name in their collection. Also Picea orientalis Professor Lagner' must be written as 'Professor Langner' Indeed nice selection from Dennis. I'm wondering how his health is now....See Morefinally!! no rain, it's planting day!!!
Comments (4)Today was grass cutting and trimming (4 hours), planted a gunnera, some taro, queen of the praire, black currant datura, and the normal zinnias and other annuals. Watched the hummingbirds fight at the feeder for about 10 minutes, and then it was time to turn the compost bin. Trimmed some hedges, made steaks and ribs on the barby, and networked an extra old computer into the home network! Can't wait to get to WORK tomorrow so I can get some rest!! Comments (14)Maryl - Red Venom has the most amazing color in person. It just glows. Cary Grant has excellent color and form, plus it is sunfast and rainfast. This season I'm finding I prefer them to most of my reds with fancy edges. Except for Fighting Fire and Spacecoast Francis Busby, my edged reds have had trouble with opening and splotchiness. If Hem. Barbara Mandrell weren't such a good pod setter, she would be on the move out list. I rprefer my pinks with white or cream edges, and I have added a lot of those in the past two years. Lori - Lots of rain here yesterday and today. All this rain we're getting should prompt the reblooms! Sherry - You're really starting to like the patterned eyes! Hoosier Nan - Simply Charming was my favorite yesterday too. I can't resist a good bicolor. Debra...See MoreBarb in Eastern North Carolina, zone 8
