Help, is this scale???

Can anyone tell me whats on my succulent???I thought maybe scale but it doesn't seem to be acting like the scale I've seen on my Japanese Magnolia, Its just scaring the leaves, not sucking the life from them. Also can someone ID it for me Thanks Jane

It's Echeveria agavoides. Not sure--could be damage. Someone with better eyesight will be able to tell you.

My personal opinion is that bigger is better for your kitchen. Because of your high ceilings, the white cabs, the size of the range and hood (and hippo bathtub), I'd say that average sized hardware would get "lost". I think you could get away with larger scale hardware, but instead of it looking "larger scale", it'll just look right. I'd go for the larger bin pulls, and I'd probably do the chrome, just because of the stove! (Don't know about the cleanup factor though. I do know that I had bin pulls in my last kitchen, and you really don't touch the top of them much.) LOVE the idea of the crystal knobs! Sounds like the 1 1/8 size would work, but I'm curious if they have bigger somewhere?

oldmangroot, I talked to a friend in S. Florida who grows a ton of broms, and he gave me directions to save it. I sent pictures, and because the scale was so bad, unfortunately, it involves cutting off most of the leaves, soaking it in Dawn dishwashing liquid & water overnight, (which removes the protective wax coating on the scale's armor and kills the babies) and then scraping as much of the scale off as possible. He told me that is the best way to make sure it doesn't come back, but also recommended Orthene to kill any that may remain. I've done the chopping and soaking (which broke my heart!) and started the scraping this morning. I probably won't finish that today, but I have a few done, and will just stick them into a pot with no soil for now, as per his directions. Once I put them back into soil, I'll apply the Orthene. I'd rather have one or two survive than lose it all. This brom (tri-color Queen's Tears) multiplies rather rapidly. I checked my plain queen's tears, and it is showing some signs of scale also, but not nearly as bad, so I can just treat that with the Orthene and cross my fingers. I used to use Orthene a lot, but stopped when I went mostly organic. While I've got it, I'll also do a soil drench around my Confederate Rose plants, because white flies are already attacking them, and I see no ladybugs yet to counteract it.

Any design help with scale of lights for family room? tia

Thank you. We have the 7'6" and 3' covered. I totally get the confusion as I supplied too much information. The one light my husband is holding in the picture is 35" wide by 9" tall (with the rod it will be 36") thus when hung will be 7'6" off of the floor. This is the 10'6" tall part of the sloped ceiling. The other area is 14'6" tall part of the sloped ceiling and the light will be above the table. It is the other style and is 39" tall by 24" wide. It comes with 6' of chain. Would these two lights coordinate enough to be put in this same room? The finish will be close enough. (with a bit of spray paint on the second one)

I doubt scale could cause a lesion like that. And I doubt it'll do your olive any harm.

I don't know too much about injuries or anything on plants, but it looks like there was an injury there and it's scarred over. How long have you had it for? Have you ever noticed anything else in the area of that plant? Once again, I may be wrong, so if someone comes by and tells you differently you should trust them.

Did you try to 'take' it off? Try using a q tip or cotton ball or even soft tissue, moistened in rubbing alcohol. If any bug, alcohol will kill them and they should rub off quite easily. If you squish it, you'll see bloody goo...sorry to be gross but that's a sign it is living. Of course, if already dead, you won't see that...

There is a white clump of something on top of one of the leaves, looks very similar to mealy bugs - I can't tell for sure (the pic doesn't show it well), but use rubbing alcohol on it (you could spray it or do as above) and if mealy, you'll see that mass just about to dissolve right away.

Thanks, I did try to remove. Stuck on hard like a scar or something fell on it Its an old plant years. This was a pup and the Mom died, it might be 5 years or older. Its next to a sweet olive tree and on the porch, I wonder if the little flowers fell on it and may be some nectar?? Im grasping The more I look at it I don't think its alive I will try the alcohol Thanks Again Jane
