I'm a fan of dark sky lighting whose primary rules are to illuminate only areas that need it and to only shine lights downward. I'd follow those rules and attach downward-facing lights to the beams or slats inside the pergola. You could use surface-mount, weatherproof electrical boxes (though there may be fixtures with integrated boxes - dunno) and hide any electrical conduit above the slats and beams. While lighting the posts would provide no useful illumination, you could use surface-mounted boxes with holes cut just large enough for rear conduit, run the conduit up to the top of the pergola, and attach downward-facing sconces to the boxes. -- amateur (obviously)

Just curious who made them, as I'll probably sell them. While I appreciate them for their artistry and craftsmanship, they don't work so well for my home.

We just bought these Bryant wall sconces for our hallway and are looking for sconces for our new kitchen. I have looked at hundreds of sconces and had not seen the Jonathan one. The recessed lights are fine. They are for general lighting. The sconces are the more specific task lighting and will eliminate any shadowing. That’s quite a lot of light, actually. You may want to tweak the wattage of the bulbs later, depending on how it feels after you get it all together. I would also put a dimmer on one or both light switches for late night visits. Tip: address appliance outlets in the vanity while you can - if you haven’t already. If you’re right handed, having the cord strung across the sink is a pain. I had an outlet installed down the right side of the vanity and have my hair dryer on a hook there. You may have a better solution for storage inside, but either way it’s a good time to take care of it.
