The Granddog spent the day with us yesterday.

Her perch for better views of the outside has served 5 family dogs in the past 40 years. The mat tells them what to 'say' (like a dog would forget) in case they see something exciting.

I encountered one of those squatters in Thailand. I took one look, backed out of the stall and waited until I found a more user friendly bathroom. They say using one of those is easy once one gets the hang of it, but with my creaky knees, I don't think I could get back up again!

You are right, summer! It should have come with more than one language...like all the instruction manuals these days. LOL

Sabbath, that makes me wonder...what facilities are like for the handicapped in public restrooms in places that use the "squat" position.

Nicole, no, I rarely find sea glass. The beaches I tend to go to are pretty popular so I think they might be picked clean. There are rarely even any shells on these beaches.

No way could I use one of those bathrooms. I guess you just better not be handicapped!

Raven, in all the time we spent in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, I only saw two of those squatters and they were in older, rural areas. Restaurants, hotels, malls and other public areas all had regular western style toilets if they were in towns or cities that have western tourists visit on a regular basis.

The airports also had the squatters, but they also had plenty of western toilets as well. I think that was because the airports get so many travelers from places where squatters are the norm and they sometimes don't know what to make of a western style toilet. The malls in Bangkok had signs in the stalls that said the toilets were not for feet washing.

I was shocked when we landed at Haneda and I went to the restroom and saw that. I assumed that they would only be in rural areas. It wasn't that bad, but I do prefer a western style toilet. They have the most wonderful heated toilets in Japan!

Since I lost my orchids that I had been growing for years during the flood I decided to go with miniature orchids in the kitchen window that looks into the atrium. Ignore the condition of the atrium we are currently working on it. It will be getting a power washing soon.
