My walls are naked!!!

I am the type of person to have large canvas prints, or large paintings on my walls. This has generally worked out for me, living in apartments the past several years. But my husband and I just bought a house, and although my big paintings are amazing centerpieces for the rooms they're in, I cannot for the life of me come up with any good ideas to fill the remaining space. Our TV room is the worst case of this. I have a 4ft-wide painting (which I LOVE!) in the center of a 20ft wall....What should I put on each side of it? I've tried small-mirror layouts and those just don't fit the way I need them to. HELP!

I think, because that painting is so large and you still have so much space to "fill", it's going to be hard to do a gallery wall with pieces that won't be dwarfed by the existing piece and that coordinate nicely with it. Or, if you get more large pieces, it could become overwhelming. But it can be done!

Is there another place in the room you could hang that one and find a grouping for over the sectional? I found these ideas for arrangements on walls behind a large sectional..

Maybe adding some simple shelves (don't overdecorate them) along with more art might work (if you picture your painting as the window here:

Definitely more paintings. From what we can see of your room you need more color in the room and smaller paintings (not too small) would be gorgeous around the beautiful one you have now. Puhleeze don't put mirrors or those iron scrollwork things. JMHO.

I believe you mean your Aeonium 'Kiwi'. Two of the stems are creating inflorescences ~flowers to come~ but the one losing leaves does look odd. Can't say what caused it, as the others don't have same ailment. If the leaves had dried up & fallen off, I'd say that was normal ~but it doesn't look like that's what's happening here. Sorry I'm not of more help to you.

When I looked at the pics earlier, I thought the white table was pushed up against the wall in one photo, and pulled away in another. Now I see that the shots are being taken from the kitchen (fridge on left) and the white table (kitchen island?) is floating in the space. I like the suggestion of a shallow cabinet. Have you considered making it into a gallery wall? I think that might be a nice use of the space, and you'd see the collection often since it's in the kitchen/dining. Once you incorporate the clock/photos/other decor into the mixed gallery, the grouping will have more presence and the wall won't seem so naked.

i like your bathroom, especially the wood and counters! I would change out the light fixtures, faucets, and paint color to something lighter with color with more modern shapes. You can match it to a new bath mat. Your cabinets are shaker style and dont match your doors, but it would be hard to change out doors without changing them through the entire house. That style of door is in every single tract home built in the last 25 years.

Some ideas: If this is an option, I’d pull the table away from the wall a bit more and get a fun MCM buffet. (It may not be space feasible, I don’t know what’s around the area.) An area rug. Not necessarily this particular style or size, just wanted to show how it anchors the table and chairs. As mentioned, colorful artwork. Maybe two pieces of art, hung vertically. If you’re into a very minimal look, leave the mirror but lower it some. _________________________ ETA: Was posting at the same time as Felipe Custom Woodwork. Those are what I had in mind, too. :)

Are all your paintings as large as this one? If yes, then you have the pleasurable job of looking for smaller pieces of art that will look good with the painting you already have, in terms of subject matter, medium (oil, watercolor, drawing, etc.) and frames. Don't just settle for anything, buy only what you love and what excites you, even if it takes longer. E-bay has a lot of affordable oils and watercolors, and I would highly recommend the real thing over prints.

Surround it with more paintings or art pieces, they don't have to be paintings.

Yeah, the large painting looks lonely and would probably like a little company. I *personally* like paintings/prints which are the same subject matter kept together on one wall, but you could incorporate something else on another wall. As yayagal has said, you don't need to use paintings/art only. A mirror, or a few, a small shelf w/ picture resting on it, or even a wall pocket would continue the 'nature' theme. And it's ok to mix frames, just keep them similar.

I went online to European ebay and searched for old prints related to family member's hobbies. Then framed. Other idea is to print an old map of a meaningful place on engineering prints at Staples.

You might try a collage of empty picture frames all the same color around that lovely picture. I don't know if you are up for it, but I think a more organic looking coffee table is needed. A twisted wood base with glass top would look sharp and bring attention to your beloved painting. What is the texture of the wall? Is it painted brick or masonry? I am seeing texture on it. You could do a color blocking paint pattern if unable to put a bunch of nail/screw holes in it. I agree...great art piece.

Even though your art is nicely sized, IMO it gets lost.

I would use it somewhere else and do a color block type graphic on the wall
