apron front vs. undermount: are the dishes really closer?

I am drawn to apron front sinks because I love the idea that you don't have to lean forward as much while washing dishes. But when I look at pictures of ones I am considering buying and that are popular on GW, I wonder if that would actually be the case. For example, the Kohler Whitehaven has a nice thin front lip, but then it looks like it slopes so much toward the bottom that I wonder if the dishes really would be closer to you than an undermount with a few inches of counter between you and the sink. The Kraus KHF200 seems to have a lip that is several inches - I wonder if that lip is about the same as the amount of countertop between you and the sink with an undermount. And is there a variation in the amount of countertop you must have between you and the sink with an undermount? Might some of you with apron fronts and undermounts share how much the real distance is between you and your dishes with your particular model of sink? Thanks so much!
