White Dove for walls, trim and ceiling?

I am renovating a 1000 square foot cottage. There is nickel gap on the walls. The ceilings have exposed truss boards about every two feet, and dry wall between the truss boards. The ceiling is LOW. The bottom of the truss boards is 7'11" and the drywall is 8'2" from the floor. I do not want to draw attention to the ceiling nor do I want it to appear busy. I'm thinking of painting the walls, trim, truss boards and ceiling one color: White Dove. The living/kitchen area is on a south facing wall that is all glass, if that makes a difference. Any thoughts?

I'd say that's fine. Just make sure the trim and truss boards are semi-gloss and the walls are eggshell.

Alexa Hampton of Mark Hampton Inc. recommends 50/50 wall color and ceiling white paint mixed.....something to consider unless you love a white ceiling. I did my ceiling the same color as the trim although my crown molding was done in semi gloss and the ceiling was done in flat which is an easier paint job for a DIY like me.

Mixing whites is not for the fiant haearted often goes a miss. I would now choose the same whites you already have but in a different sheen ,maybe semigloss for the trim and satin for the FP but really posting pics is the way to get help.

The safest answer is to get the cabinets, get a white that matches the cabinets to paint the trim and then pick an off white that looks great with your whiter white for the walls or use the same color for the walls and trim and cabinets and use different sheens on the walls and trim.

White Dove has yellow undertones, so if that is OK, that would work. I think with what you are describing I might seek a more reflective white. I would try samples first, to make sure about how the interiors affect the color. BM Cotton Balls 2145-70 has a LRV of 91.3 so it is quite reflective. Another choice is BM Moonlight OC 125 with a reflective value of 83, so not quite as reflective. It might work really well with the features you are describing. You definitely have to do sample boards and try them, because EVERY so called "white" has undertones of color, and it also varies from paint company to paint company because all their "base" white paints vary a little as well. So, lots to consider. Hope this helps a little. Sounds like a very interesting project. Post some photos when you can.

I suggest painting your trim a glossy Ultra White to give your room a crisp, clean look. The people that owned our house before us painted all of the rooms with flat matte white paint, including the trim. I hate it! I'm slowly painting my rooms with color and my window and door trim along with woodwork a beautiful glossy Ultra White and I love it!

I have a Tudor home with stucco walls, restored oak trim, and very high ceilings. I have been using White Dove for 30 years on the walls of the living, dining and hall spaces. Last year I painted all the oak trim in semigloss White Dove, and brought white dove into my kitchen. Upstairs I have other colors in the bedrooms, but changed the previously white trim, doors and ceilings to White Dove. We love it and so does everyone who sees it! The house looks more unified, fresh, open and updated. It is a beautiful soft white tone -- a lot of bright whites can just be too harsh. I read somewhere that white Dove is Benjamin Moore's most popular color world wide. The only way you will notice the slight yellow undertone of this color is to put bright white next to it. I did that on my staircase which led me to the solution of using White Dove on everything, in different finishes. I used eggshell and semigloss from the Aura line of BM. Every day I'm so glad I did it!

I have seen BM White Dove many places and loved it. I have a lot of yellow in my house. The yellow tones of the White Dove do not work next to yellow. It sounds like your space should work. I personally prefer the BM pearl finish rather than the semi-gloss for woodwork. Your project sounds like fun, so please send pics when you finish.

Yes I did and it is perfect! I painted everything (wooden walls, trusses, doors, trim) in the same sheen. It’s lovely.
