Hello again Stuart - I'm attempting once again to try to resolve my order number 4576 placed on Feb 4th and which you reported dispatched on February 20th, but which never arrived. I am documenting this request for some sort of a response on several gardening forums in an attempt to resolve my complaint. Just to remind you of the whole story, I placed my initial order for 5 adeniums from David Clulow on Sunday Oct 28th. After being mailed to my billing address and not my mailing address and being returned and then being reshipped, they finally arrived on Dec 10th. Unfortunately, of the 5 plants in my order 2 had begun to rot and died shortly thereafter. After numerous emails, which you reported went to your spam email box, you finally responded on February 2nd and said you would be happy to replace the plants. I purchased another 5 different adenium plants to help with shipping and because I was happy with the 3 plants that survived. Two days later, on Feb 4th, I placed my second order (#4576). You corresponded with me up until about Feb 20th when you reported that you had dispatched the shipment. However, despite repeated emails, you never sent a tracking number, never responded and the shipment of 7 plants never arrived. I would like some sort of response from you in regards to my complaint, which I will be happy to print on the forums along with this letter. Please note that if you search on Google for Plumeria2U, on the initial search page these complaints do register quite visibly and I believe that you have already lost business because of them, so I hope you will be ready to finally respond and clear up this situation. Cylinders are labeled by how much propane they hold. 10lb tank holds 10 lbs of propane, 20 lb tank holds 20 lbs of propane, 30 lb tank holds 30 lbs of propane. 20 lb tanks are more commonly known as BBQ size tanks. These cylinders are meant to hold 20 lbs of propane @ 80% of the tanks capacity. Blue Rhino is most certainly 'short-filling' their tanks to line their already bulging pockets. Also, Blue Rhino puts a plastic 'sleeve' around its tanks which advocates rapid rusting resulting in an ugly and sometimes unsafe cylinder. I have worked at a refill station for 10 years now and I can't tell you how many complaints we get about Blue Rhino tanks. It is not unsafe to put 20lbs of propane in a tank, UNLESS that tank is exposed to 120 degrees F or above, at which point, the pressure relief valve with discharge to reduce pressure inside the tank. You only want 80% of your cylinder filled because propane expands and increases in pressure when exposed to temperatures between 66-119 degrees F. This is why you never want to store a full tank inside. If in the case the pressure relief valve does blow off, and the tank is outside in a highly ventilated area, the propane will dissipate. Also, propane is heavier than air, so if you do have a leak, the propane will settle in low laying areas. Shut all electricity off and call your fire department if you suspect a leak. As for this new 'magnetic valve', I have only seen a few up in MA over the past 10 years. I empty the cylinder, and replace it with a fully functional OPD valve (DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU ARE NOT CERTIFIED), this way it can be refilled wherever the rightful owner of the tank wants it to be refilled. I can't knock Blue Rhino for its convenience. It's about the only propane you can get at midnight at a 24 hr Stop & Shop. Try finding a refill station open at midnight (never!) If you think Blue Rhino is ripping customers off only filling to 17 lbs of propane. AmeriGas only puts 15 lbs in their exchange tanks!! With all this said, stay away from Blue Rhino and Amerigas. Blue Rhino is now owned by FerralGas which is the largest propane supplier in America. Support your local mom and pop refill stations. If your using Blue Rhino, your just lining the already rich pockets of corporate America. God Bless the USA! Thermador is selling a zoneless induction cooktop. They announced it way back at CES but just started shipping it a month or two ago. The cooktop is 36" wide and can handle up to 4 pots. It auto-senses the pan locations, lets you move them around, and so on. There are some catches, though. The two halves (left and right) are kind of, sort of zones, since you can only have two pots on each side. And if you have a big pan in the middle it counts as one each on the right and left, so you can only have one additional pan on each side. And 4 pots/pans is itself a limitation: most of the 'zoned' 36" units have 5 positions. Another issue for me is that I haven't seen one of these units anywhere and haven't seen any forum posts -- here or elsewhere -- from anyone who has one. I definitely wouldn't buy something this new and expensive without trying it out first. A showroom near me says they may get one later this fall, so I may get a chance then. Finally there's the price: about $5,000 USD MSRP. Wow. I can get it for the dealer price, but that's still a lot of money. I'm thinking of getting one anyway, but fortunately I don't have to decide for a while. Being able to put a big griddle on one side and a couple pots/pans on the other side is attractive. As is the ability to use huge pans anywhere on the unit rather than just on one special burner. And I suppose I could use the griddle as a sort of french top if I wanted lots of little pans on one side. I hope other companies come out with more zoneless models by the time I need to order mine (5-6 months?) so I have more choices. I've heard rumors that Gaggenau may release one, but since they're owned by the same company as Thermador and Bosh I'm guessing it won't be much different from the Thermador model. I have ordered from many Thai sellers and Rinoa from Taiwan for many years and have been either fortunate and stay with sellers w a good track record. A concern for labeling a seller as bad, can all be subject to information given by each individual. I believe that any concerns should be made apparent to all individuals here, so that each one of us can make our own educated decision as to whether we want to pursue purchasing from a seller. To many variables fall into play, unless obvious as in the Pom issue. Which is deceitful at the least. What is happening w the Thai sellers, is that they want to take payment either through Western Union or PayPal (Friends & Family). This way there is not recourse for us when purchasing. Basically putting cash into someone hand and hope they are honest. The one thing that I was made aware of at first getting into these plants, was to not order after Oct/Nov or before Mar. If we do order plants within these parameters then we risk the chances of cold conditions. Even if we live in a warmer area through out the winter months. The point of entry into out country is relatively cold. Not the best conditions for these Adeniums. Especially in the winter where my plants would arrive to. A friend many years ago had told me to hold off as much as it might be difficult, as I wanted them right now. Glad he did make this apparent to me. I have been caught in a similar situation as Tyler did w Rinoa. Fortunately she made good with it. In my situation it had become apparent that she had built her business up and had many people hired to help her, as she could not manage on her own. This leading to unqualified or uneducated eyes packaging plants for export and not aware of what healthy plants look like. This falls on Rinoa's hands and is responsible for this. For me, my one question to a seller will be. "If a plant is shipped with rot or unhealthy and received within reasonable time frame, Will it plant be replaced and shipping paid by them." If the resulting answer is "No" then I will not be ordering anything. Probably will find that most will not conform to this. I feel for most of you within the U.S., to have people such as Tracy (may be others, but I do not remember) growing these throughout the year and selling with the U.S. This is where I would look if not wanting to purchase from outside of the country. I can purchase from the U.S., but the cost of the Phytosanitary Certificate from U.S. makes it not very expensive. That's it for me.
