Ohhhhh, oohhh - yesterday as I wrote my comments about Kirk's lovely fence and garden area, I was about to write that I was going to go there "on bended knee" cause I sure wish I had a guy to do all that great garden work for me but I thought that might not be too cool. I then thought I might ask if he had a brother available who does the same wonderful garden work but left that one alone too. As I read again today Kirk's post of yesterday and now this one, I see that others jumped right in with their "offers" and "offers" for a brother, I'm sitting here thinking - darn it, "I should have asked yesterday, all the other gals are horning in on me" - (LOL!!!) But seriously Kirk (and wife) you do make a great team and only want to say how proud you both must be of your accomplishments in making a beautiful home and property. Keep up the good work cause you certainly are making some us jealous of your garden handiwork. Have a great day. Sounds like a really cool title for a children's book. I'd say you have VOLES, my dear. When you water or it rains, they will tunnel through the soft earth, munching on your plant's roots. Moles and gophers and shrews (and snakes of all kinds), use their nifty tunnels to get around your yard subteranean - like a handy-dandy animal subways. Crickets use them, earthworms, and slugs, too, and lots of other critters. Some good for your garden and some that don't seem to be so good. I've lost tuberose salvias and my favorite tea roses; tulips and petunias, even cactus roots. If its edible, they will eat it! I've tried various things, like tarpaper collars around my roses and concrete or rock barriers, even strips of sheet metal buried around them. The tarpaper worked pretty good until it disentigrated, but eventually, mice burrowed through it and then it rotted to dirt. Flooding does no good, as those tunnels are hundreds of feet long. Those holes will never fill completely up. I've tried it. :) If you have a serious vole (or other rodent) problem, like I do, your yard may be completely undermined with tunnels that links with your neighbor's, and their neighbor's, and so on...hence you may find a flower in your yard (or weed) that you didn't plant or never saw before. Birds can bring carry them in or deposit them in your garden, via their poop, that's true, but so can rodents. Rodents carry seeds back and forth through those tunnels to and from your place. Keeping things in balance with Nature is what works best for me. If we can stop fighting all the elements of nature and work with it, we will get better results and enjoy gardening even more. I sink bottomless buckets in the ground for barriers for my big lilies, around berry bushes and roses, and even some of my garden plants, like my tomatoes, and that works really great. For shallow rooted plants that send out roots horizontally, these don't work so well. Planting daffodils, irises, liriope (Monkey grass), garlic, zinnias and stinky marigolds around the borders of my flower beds and/or around blueberry bushes, roses and strawberry beds, even apple trees, is about the only things I've done that works relatively well for an indefinite period of time, without killing the beneficial micro-organisms in the soil and harming animals like shrews and earthworms and preditory insects and snakes. Garlic really does a great job warding off rodents from my roses and they both mutually benefit from one another. Daffodils, irises, and liriope are poisonous so rodents just don't dig 'em. I think we gardeners and farmers will always have our challenges, but isn't that what makes our successes so awesome! ~ SweetAnnie4u

Roger No problem, I had glanced at the thread and took it to say a seedling, the reason I was vague about what the photo was because I really wasn't sure what I was looking at. I'm sure like you it did seem fun that there would be a BME with coloration something like the photo. Simply stated I'm here to have fun, learn or teach. Anytime you can shed light on what I report it is welcome. I may disagree with someone's information but seldom will that be personal based on the belief that everyone has a right to their own opinion but not their own facts. I'm sure you noticed that I never gave specific information except, "how about a seedling" which was even a bit more than I felt I knew? Again thank you for you response.

thanks. especially because the temps are supposed to be a bit more sane this week, I think I can wait until, hopefully, a tech gets out here late in the week. It is able to do some cooling. If you mean to bypass the actual overload PTC on the compressor that is cutting out...no I think that would be insanity. It's there for a reason. Or do you mean another thermal switch? My understanding is code 72 relates only to the compressor itself. There are other messages for other sensors. The troubleshooting guide says: If the control senses the compressor voltage after start--up, and is then absent for 10 consecutive seconds while cooling demand exists, it will de--energize the compressor contactor, keep the outdoor fan operating for 15 minutes (if 230v power present) and display the appropriate fault code. (See table 3) Possible causes are compressor internal overload trip or loss of high voltage (230V) to compressor without loss of control voltage. Now the interesting thing is, before I replaced the contactor, I was getting a lot of "no 230V to compressor" messages, in addition to the thermal cutoff messages. Now I'm just getting the thermal cutout messages. The control board on the outside unit has two leads that attach across the common and the start coil of the compressor, to detect the voltage. So I think if you are just getting the thermal cutoff message, it somehow detects that 230V is still on the line (contactor working), but there's no current flow in the windings because the internal overload is engaged. BTW years ago when this unit first started having trouble, I did get 82 codes (back then, the guy said it was the capacitor but I'm not privy to how he tested it) 82 is what happens when you have 4 consecutive 72s. These days I shut it off at the first 72 code and let it cool down. Now that I think about...Occam's razor at work...that could be it all over again. Maybe even though the cap. tests ok, it isn't.
