They are harder to clean. In a vacation rental, I'd go coil.

The glass surface gets to 850* so anything that gets on it is porcelainized on there. Single edged razor blades and BonAmi with a 3M non-scratch pad will be in constant use by you most likely.

If you can find room for a 30" a Frigidaire induction is 1200 in the cart at AJMadison.

I totally would not waste induction on a rental, and I speak as someone who rented for many years. I think coils are your best bet, but be aware that all the coil stoves made these days are seriously junky, so factor in the possibility of dents and such.

Yes, the smoothtop is nicer, but you can't rely on renters to clean it properly and if they let sugar burn on, the top is hosed and has to be replaced. Unless you're only renting to trusted family members and good friends, go coil.

Can be. But if you are renting-out your unit as furnished with the pans you provide, you may be able to mitigate that somewhat with smooth pans. The sugary-syrup spills mentioned above can be removed with a razor scraper and stovetop cleaner. However, when left long enough, the sugary spill may etch or pit the ceran surface. Top is not necessarily "hosed" but can be unsightly. Another concern would be spilled salt. It can act as an abrasive when pans are slid over salt the on the glass surface surface. Ceran is actually pretty durable, though scratches and pitting may diminish "the look" that you like better.

Haven't seen any rigorous statistical data on this, but probably not any more likely,. Maybe a little less likely if the smoothtop model has hot surface warning lights (as long as the renters pay attention to them.)

Unless having a smoothtop would increase the rentals, however, a simpler and possibly more durable coil range would still be my preference for frequent rentals.

Coil it is! I like the look of the smooth top but had a feeling it would be problematic.

I'd go coil with a rental. If they crack the whole glasstop... a coil is easily replaced for parts and whatnot, and I think people are more familiar with them/less likely to misuse them- or they can stand abuse better.

I finally figured out where my anxiety about the smoothtop came from despite never having used one. We looked at dozens of cabins before buying ours. I'm now recalling how many had smoothtop ranges that were all scarred and had stuff burnt onto them. At least with a coil it's easy and cheap to replace the drip pans.

Anyway, Induction top is moot because there aren't any 24" induction ranges for sale in North America except for the single burner $$$$ AGA model.
