ID help
Encountered a large colony of Erythronium americanum(Trout lily) in a large watershed. There were so many spent Carolina jasmine blooms on the ground that,at first, I didn't even notice the trout lilys.
These are just emerging
Although not as abundant as the trout lily, this was occupying the same habitat. From a distance they looked the same. What might this be ?

Comments (18)" is that photo a bit photo-shopped? .. or was it taken at the precise moment of time at dusk with pink sky.. when you can capture this type of color pic? " It was edited with Photoscape, but I didn't adjust the colours.....I cropped it, increased the sharpness, and decreased the contrast a bit to keep the white flowers from overpowering the purple and pink ones. Otherwise, it was taken with a Sony mirrorless Alpha 6000, on a sunny day, sometime before lunch. Thank you to everyone for your help. Comments (29)Beautiful coloring, but it's not a special breed, just a plain ol' DSH (domestic short hair.) Cats generally don't roam more than a block or two from their house, so it probably lives nearby. It reminds me of when I was staying in the country. One morning I was home alone, lying in bed, looked out the window and saw a cat. At first I thought our cat had gotten out; then realized that the color was wrong. I grabbed my phone and took a video to help find the owner. The cat turned and ran with kind of a hopping motion. So then I thought, "Poor rabbit, something happened to its ears." I felt guilty that I hadn't gone out to feed or rescue it, but I wasn't dressed and didn't want to get out of bed. When my husband returned, I showed him the video. 7 years agoThank you both. Last year I recovered a plant from the path of a bulldozer and posted a pic of the leaves and roots. After some debate it was agreed that it was mertensia. If I recall the debate was about the smoothness of the leaf. My recovered specimen had no leaves so I could not get another pic. I put my plant specimen in a pot with a Mertensia? tag. It just emerged with hairy leaves so I assuming its not a mertensia ? I will try to follow up on the above plant.

7 years agoThe second plant the OP asked about reminded me a little of Mertensia too, but I looked at pictures of mine at that stage and the leaves are more oblong and the petioles are more defined. What about something like Krigia biflora?

The first plant in question turned out to be a dandelion of some kind.
Pretty sure the second plant is Symphytum Officinale - comfrey/hounds tongue.
