Thank you everyone for your sympathy and support. I took him to the vet while my dh was at work because he didnt' die as quickly as I thought and he began to appear to be in pain. I've never done the burial by myself before. I didn't like the spot that dh had already dug a hole so did a new one in a flower bed near the little patio at the base of our back steps. He looked so alive curled up in the hole that I couldn't bear to throw dirt on him so I covered his face with flowers then his whole body with sunflower leaves. I think I'll put some shallow flower bulbs there once the ground settles. Or maybe a special primrose. For now a concrete sunflower. I'm glad its over. But I'm sad too. Thanks again, kathy

Better is to buy a cheap humidifier and run it 24/7. Misting doesn't last long in a heated house. Palms in my experience do best in a sunny window in a cool humid room over the winter.

Firstly it's not a palm, not even close. It's Dracaena marginata (more closely related to asparagus than to palms). But they should put out new shoots from those stems. You need to be sure the soil drains fast and doesn't stay too soggy. Don't over water, let it dry out a bit between waterings. You can push a wooden dowel down into the soil to check how wet it is deeper down. They like a lot of light, but ease them into direct sun if they've been growing in shade. The broken off branches can be used as cuttings, they strike quite easily.

Probably a recent history (including maybe before you bought it) of it being watered too often.
