River stones/pebbles in pool landscape?
Comments (13)We used a mix of pea gravel and Mexican river rock for some of the areas around our pool (couple of pics below). The river rocks stay solidly in place except when the kids name them and take them swimming (yes, it's happened!) Some of the pea gravel gets tracked into the pool. I didn't intend for it to be walked on, but you know how kids are :-) I just pluck out the pieces of gravel when I'm swimming around. I might find 5 or 6 a week in there, so it's no biggie. I made sure to hold the gravel down below the decking elevation so it wouldn't wash out during super-heavy rains....See MoreAny ideas for this sad pool landscape?
Comments (12)Atlanta is a bit north even for the cold hardy palms. I want to see a picture of the palm fronds canopy before saying add a couple more. The pool and house look to have all modern clean lines. The landscape should reflect that in simplicity. Three plant species to fill your beds: Tetrapanax papyriferum, Rice Paper Plant - fingers crossed your not too far north and it is root hardy. Iris siberica, Siberian Iris 'Caesar's Brother' Muhlenbergia capillaris. Pink Muhly Grass Fill your beds so no mulch shows and let the plants spill out over the lines....See MoreLandscaping suggestions for behind pool?
Comments (11)"New Zealand Flax, Spanish lavender, liriope aka Lilyturf are a few plants to consider. Also cistus rose, butterfly bush and loropetalum aka Chinese fringe flower. Mediterranean plants are drought resistant." Not sure how one is defining 'Mediterranean' but with the exception of the lavender and the cistus, none of the plants mentioned are of Mediterranean origin. "I wanted to use Icee Blue Podocarpus but learned they burn in our California heat." I find this difficult to believe. The plant was bred/developed in SoCal and they are widely sold and planted from the Bay area southward. Podocarpus of various kinds are commonly used for privacy screening in SoCal. If you like the plant, I'd go for it....See MorePool landscape needing revamped
Comments (0)I am having problems with my current landscaping. It seems unbalanced and random. There were previously trees on each corner (as seen in 2nd photo) but 2 were cut down. The rose bushes seem like a poor choice next to a pool where children are running around also. And the juniper ground cover is very annoying to keep weed free. The hosta on one side refuses to grow much but the other side its ginormous so I want it gone. I'm looking for any ideas that don't require professional work. I have considered putting some sort of artificial turf instead of the stone. Or maybe some corner cabana pergolas for to help provide privacy and shade....See More- 7 years ago
