I wondered how a mouse might be getting in . . .

The cats and I have caught more mice than usual this winter, and I wondered if they'd found some little opening above the foundation. So yesterday, armed with a cobweb brush, I made a rare trip down to the dungeon (my dirt-floor, complete-with-ditch basement) to have a look.

It didn't take me long to find an opening--an opening so large anything could come in through it. Even my cat Rocky!

One of the panes in a 3-pane window had fallen out. On inspection, I discovered the entire window frame is rotted (my house is c. 1850), and my attempts to cover the open area resulted in another pane and half of the third one falling out. My son is working on a solution. I'm glad I went down there to check!

Got a dungeon, anyone?
