My cat chewed up my begonia!
Comments (4)I was told by a begonia expert when I was just starting out, many years ago, that the plant will waste energy trying to repair damaged leaves instead of growing new ones. I'm not sure that's true, but I know they can't succeed and I always take them off. If quite a few are damaged it's probably best not to take them all off at once. She also told me to leave a bit of the leaf petiole (stem) and let it dry off by itself as sometimes if you cut it too close rot can set in in the wound. Some begonias are recommended for adding to salads and such, so I guess it's not surprising your kitty thought it would make a good snack!...See MoreBegonia 'Gryphon' vs. 'Tropical Nites'
Comments (1)You can get 100 seeds for $12.75 at Geoseed, incase you comparison shop for Gryphon. But that is a lot of plants even if you have a 50% success rate. Bob...See Moregryphon ring saw
Comments (3)So far my experience hasnt been good. I recived my saw form an online siplier and it wouldnt run. The manufacturer had me send back the upper motor part and replaced it. I got the 4 free grinding bits and he threw in a free ring blade for my problems. I just recieved the new motor housing and the packaging wasnt very good. The fuse cover was broken and I asm calling them tommorrow. I tried the saw because it did run and when it started with force the handle which snaps together cam eunsnapped from the vibration at start up. I ducktaped it shut but the vibration still causes a lot of left to right movement in the blade. Maybe as much as an 1/8 inch. I did manage to cut and amazing spiral out of a piece of scrap. So I kmnow I want a ring saw I just know if I should have got the red one insted. Im going to give them another shot to send me another motor housing that doesnt vibrate so bad. It seems to me Gryphoons plastic parts are not molded with the precision you would excpect at this price range....See MoreBegonias for medium light?
Comments (2)What do you have against "ready cheap" begonias? Yes, the ones at Walmart, Lowe's, and "Hinge" Depot will do most everybody very well in a home setting. I would study up on the different type begonias though as each type may have slightly different needs and also behave differently over the course of a year. Did you mean tubers? I haven't seen any begonias grown from "corms". Why grow them from tubers if you can buy them already grown and blooming? I bought a couple from Walmart recently for around $4. I think most tuberous prefer brighter light though they can be grown in lower light. Be warned that tuberous begonias will go dormant in winter so either threat them as annuals or learn how to winter over the tuber. The begonias in these pots were from Walmart. The New Guinea impatiens from a big nursery in Chattanooga. They get full sun from 9 to about noon. and a couple of rexes - one on the left is Walmart for $3.50 and the one on the right from Lowe's for $5 (bigger pot from Lowe's but the leaf size difference is just the nature of these two different rexes)....See Moretimhensley
