How much sun for these three Osmanthus cultivars

I have these 3 cultivars. All came as tubestock.

- Osmanthus Fragrans Aurantiacus
- Osmanthus Fragrans "Orange Supreme"
- Osmanthus Fragrans (I am not sure if it is Fudingzhu or just a normal one if something like that is there)
- Osmanthus Fragrans "Fudingzhu"

I have two questions:
1. How much sun for each of them?
I am mostly asking about summer sun . 100F+ temperatures over a period of one and half months. In winters I will keep them in full sun.
2. Is it true that barring Fudingzhu the other two will take upto 4 years to flower? Fudingzhu did put out some flowers.

Morning sun with dappled afternoon sun would be best at your latitude. Generally sunburn troubles occur when the humidity drops (dewpoints in the 30's or lower) and temperatures soar into the 90's or higher. If the humidity is high, sun tolerance increases. I suspect your worst problems would be when you get the winds from the west, which would be dry like the Santa Ana winds in Southern California. As for the second question, the method of propagation will determine blooming age. I've seen second year rooted cuttings of common O. fragrans bloom. Just keep the nitrogen levels down and the pH lower than neutral and they should bloom well.

Got it. I will look for an acid based fertilizer for these guys.

Does anyone know if Osmanthus fragrans 'Tianxiang Taige' would grow/ would survive in a USDA hardiness zone 7b (down to -13C/ 10F each winter)? The cultivars you are talking about are not found in Europe. Even Aurantiacus is hard to find in Europe -I saw it on one French web page which however, unlike US nurseries, says theirs is hardy only to -7 to -9C (~ 15F). I have no cold hardiness issues with Fortunei. But Fragrans has its youngest tips burnt above the snow cover below -7 -9C (~ 15F) - see image attached, though it recovers well. How is the Osmanthus fragrans 'Tianxiang Taige' scent different? Texture or intensity compared to the standard Fragrans?

I already have Clevelands ready to plant. My only issue with them is properly locating them for adequate sun. I know their negatives but ornamental tree selections are very limited hereabouts. The flowering pears are a popular yard and screen tree in the region and yet have not naturalized; probably too dry for them without irrigation. And there are no other callory pears closeby with which to cross-pollinate.

I have two potted blueberries that stand currently in full morning sun. My experience is that they can take full sun if you water them regularly to keep the soil moist. However, if you do not, then they prefer indirect light/partial shade. I have had all the locations so far and they do show the signs of leaf burn if you leave them in full sun; but if you water them every day, then they thrive.

Tropicals are not really that different that different from other plants in my opinion. But getting back to your concern, I have yet had Strelizia reginae bloom for me despite having grown them for years! I would ease off though on any fertilizing and also reduce watering. Plants often respond to drought by entering a flowering period. If you think about it from the plant perspective, severe drought means I might die so I better produce flowers and seed to endure the dry season in order to survive once the rains return. Good luck and post pics if they do bloom.
