Have you considered antiqued Nordic Black granite? If you really like the look of soapstone, I think NB is the best substitute looks-wise. Below, I've linked a thread to jen4268's gorgeous kitchen, which displays antiqued Nordic Black with cream shaker cabinets and oak floors. Although Virginia Mist is very pretty in its own right, I can't understand why it has earned the reputation that it "looks just like soapstone" (which I've heard from several granite people). The two installations I've seen in person look nothing like any soapstone I've ever seen. Again, beautiful on its own, but soapstone-like at all. thank you...Annette, why no for the dishwasher between the sink and the range? Kate, I have a bunch of inspiration pictures. Our house is a split level and was built in 1990, but it almost felt 70's to me when we moved in (3 years ago). We removed both walls dividing the kitchen from the rest of the space on the main floor. It is now one open squarish room. It has an 11-foot ceiling at its peak, with a beam running down the middle of the peak. White walls, white ceiling, dark grey-brown wood floors. This is our main common space room. I would say our vision is clean lines, warm Scandinavian, beach/industrial. Right now our room feels very cold to me. I would like to bring in some warmth (literally and figuratively). We live in a beach town, but not in a beach house. But the beach is part of my inspiration, I was hoping for a driftwood look to the cabinets, but I think the lighter grey is looking a bit washed out. As much as I love the darker grey, I am still thinking it might be too big of a contrast to the rest of the room. Right now, the cabinets are all that brown color, and the room definitely looks rather heavy in the kitchen corner. Then again, the dark grey could make a nice statement.

For white paint, you need to use a waterborne to prevent yellowing in time and a 2K (two-component) for durability. Milesi would be the product of choice for a long-lastig finish, and plenty of surface prep work and intermediate sanding would be advised. I'd recommend joining this Facebook group for more input and information on where to buy Milesi: https://www.facebook.com/groups/diycabinetrefinishing White could be a tough call with your flooring and countertop colors. It might end up looking to stark by way of contrast. What are your cabinets currently? If they are wood-toned could you just freshen them up another way?

I prefer all cool colors or all warm colors in a room, but that's me. If you have a combination of the two, that's when it gets tricky. Just to give you an idea: here are some warm colors: off-white, sand, beige, tan, brown, olive green, orange, golden yellow, gold, peach. Here are some cool colors: bright white, taupe, black, gray, purple, royal blue, cool red, pine green, forest green, Kelly green. As others have said here, all colors in the room need to be considered - floor, ceiling, walls, the works. What are the other colors in the home? The entire room needs to have a sense of unity. Items do not exist on their own, but need to get along with everything else in the room. Some paint stores and websites have full room testers so you can see what the room looks like with the various colors. Call paint stores or look on their websites for help - they are there for you. Your floor is currently a warm color. Your plans for your cabs and counters will be cool.
