Help identifying maker's mark on sterling earrings.

It seems to be a pictorial, but what would it be called. Have tried 'bucket' and 'can' - without success. Any ideas what to call it in a search? Thanks for any help.

The script is in Kanji, and I'm sorry........although I can wade through the syllabaries, I know very little of this script. I can tell you the image inside the circle says Nishi, translated that means west. The script along the bottom is upside down, but reads 5665-0. I cannot read the top, and it's blurred anyway and that may still present a problem to one who can. Japanese pottery is very prolific, and mfrog is likely correct, but may be able to tell you a bit more if you can show me the pot and a cup. Also check to see if it's the same mark on all the pieces. They aren't always and if there is any markings in the syllaberies, I may be able to help you. I have identified artwork that way for another poster.

I believe it's a souvenir-type spoon. Probably from somewhere she has visited, or that commemorates some event. I don't think they have a name or pattern.

If those marks are depressions, then I think that an owner made these marks with a punch. Its rather crudely done. If instead, these marks are raised, then those were likely in the casting mold and were cast. It appears to be a casting instead a machined part. There could be a mark hidden under the lever. Open it to find out. However, if you find a trademark on this piece, realize that it is a piece of hardware and may carry the trademark of the hardware maker instead of the furniture maker. Look elsewhere for the furniture maker's mark. His mark may be an ink stamp. If the maker's mark was a pasted-on paper label, it could have yellowed with age and is gone.

I don't know if the earrings are American or not but the forum has every category imaginable and even have an American jewelry category.

How about a picture of the whole earring? many times earrings have sterling clips or posts when the rest of the piece is not. And I suspect that the mark on the screw back ( if that's what I am seeing) does not represent the jewelry designer.

Pieces marked on the findings only are not designer jewelry....those findings are utilitarian not part of the design and whoever made those screw backs has no bearing on the value of the earrings.
