Comments (3)Sorry Linda...I use too much jargon. Wait till my "AF Veteran" kicks in! LOL HOSP is English House Sparrow. The non-native scourge of all our native cavity nesters. ASY is an "After Second Year" Purple Martin. It's an adult. The year they hatch they are called HYs. Hatching Years. This fall my HYs will migrate to southern Brazil. When they come back next spring they will have their juvenile coloring and be called SY (Second Years) although they are now only one year old. It's the second year they've been in northern American though. A few SY females will breed and nest. An even smaller number of SY males may breed. Then next fall the SYs (2010) they again migrate back to Brazil and molt into their finally adult plumage. When they come back again, (Spring 2011) they will be fully mature, ready to successfully bred and be called ASYs....See Moregoing tomorrow to a most interesting meeting
Comments (16)just know that you go as a group of 20 or less to place, you stay in a friendship force home, and in turn, they come to your area, they stay in a friendship force home. they do things as a group for whatever length of time on the trip. example: the group here went to the UK,and the UK friendship force will be coming here. this was my first visit to their quarterly meeting and friend is very active, so when she gets back from her trip, she said we'd sit down and talk. she and her husband are both officers in the club, here. It is a very organized club, very well thought of, and is international. so I don't know what I would do in my situation with no room. will just have to see when I get the info and if I decide to join...See MoreDragon fruit taking off
Comments (6)It took me five years to get fruit - mine it outdoors in an extremely large pot, but it is nearly impossible to move the pot at this point, and so it might as well be in the ground. I got five flowers last year, and I only pollinated one of them successfully. You have to hand pollinate the flower (it can be self-pollinated) within a couple of hours of the flower opening - if you wait until the next morning, it will be unsuccessful. My flowers opened up about an hour after sunset, and while they stayed open until about 10 the next morning, the pollen was no longer active. I had a lot of pitaya juice on my recent trip to Brazil, and it was fantastic - I just got back last week and plan to post some photos of the botanical gardens when I get time....See Moresplinter1804
