We're down to 2 wood floors, help me decide which one!
Comments (2)4 boys? Which one shows spill spots, footprints and little dropped whatevers less??? (My mom had a white on white tile from kitchen through greatroom style dining room and family room. She replaced it with a dark wood -no grain- plank style pre-engineered flooring thinking it would be easier to keep looking clean. WRONG! She now wishes she'd gone with the lighter, but grained 'traditional hardwood floor' color style like her bedroom real wood floors.)Just a thought....See MoreTiling kitchen floor - Which backing board to use?
Comments (7)ready253: The first order of business is determining how stiff the existing floor is. This depends on your joist thickness, span, and spacing as well as composition such as sawn or Truss Joist Internationals (TJI). The thickness and composition of the existing subfloor, fastening schedule, and whether or not it was adhered to the joists will effect floor deflection also. Stiffer is better, even it it means sacrificing being flush with the existing oak floor. Ditra is an uncoupling membrane, not a "backing board" to add stiffness. I wouldn't lay floor tile without it. Comments (11)I know it will be level. He was rolling his eyes a little about what the other guys did when they installed the tile 20 years ago. He was trying really hard to be nice about it, but it was clear he thought they cut corners. He's more of a perfectionist. When he was talking to me before I signed with him, he explained exactly what he was going to do. I'll ask him why he was reticent about the 12x18. It might just be a taste thing. Thanks for all your input. I'm in the home stretch on the kitchen decisions now!...See MoreHelp choosing kitchen lights please. Which one do you think?
Comments (8)Thanks for the reply Sina Sadeddin Design. I'm not sure of this picture will help? White Quartz countertops will be installed and the present pendant bar will be replaced so that the new pendants are centered over the island. FYI the counter top in the corner bottom is temporary so I have some workable counter space right now ;) I could also do a recessed light as well I guess and no pendant but I like pendants....See MoreLindsay Irving
