Comments (26)Congrats, khallock! Isn't it a treat to actually use the sink? What are your thoughts on backsplash on the range wall? Hood height between the windows? Between windows and cabinets? I think the layout will be as difficult to decide as the material itself. As for color - if you don't want to go green, I think you could get away with a brownish/reddish tile slightly darker than the counters, since everything else is nice and light, and you have such good lighting. I see maybe a uniform color, glass tiles perhaps, with varying tile sizes, like the second picture EAM44 posted....See MoreHelp with countertop on natural cherry cabinets: Cambria Fairbourne?
Comments (14)For neutrals, you could do white tones or marble look-alikes. Or beige or gray. I used griege because my adjacent LR has all warm colors, and white and gray looked awful. We chose quartz because we wanted a little more modern look in a traditional home. We used Caesarstone Buttermilk, but the installers scratched my counters and we replaced them with Pentalquartz Botticino, which is very similar. It looks like very fine grains of sand in a greige base with white squiggles. The overall appearance is like crl's photo. A great warm neutral. Most quartz companies carry warm neutrals with subtle movement. Extreme close-up. The pennies show my seam. While looking for gray tones for a bathroom remodel, we found Caesarstone Bianco Drift. I have a sample here and this photo looks very much like my sample. It's a soft gray and white with some subtle tan swirls. Very pretty next to my cherry kitchen cabs. Look for more photos on the internet. In general I avoid quartz patterns with large chunks of crystals and wildly swirling patterns. I don't think they'll withstand the test of time as well as the quieter patterns. For granite, your best bet is to get to a stone yard and look at all the lighter granites. Quartzite is another choice, which is quite beautiful and durable, if it's a true quartzite and not a marble labelled as quartzite....See MoreBacksplash help/ Cambria Berwyn counters
Comments (51)It is heavy on barn wood. Skip the frou frou. I do not believe that it would look like a country quilt if you did a pattern across the entire backsplash. It would just look busy, detract from the overall starkness and soak up all available light which is an issue. If you wanted to do it in one particular area it might be ok, although I think it more probable it would look cheesy. I dislike tile because you cannot easily install anything, and once installed, you cannot change it without leaving an obvious mark. You do have several things that would go through the tile are you completely happy with them/their locations? Personally, I would consider a band of berwyn or torquay, as they are shiny enough to reflect light, the band should be tall enough to make the light switches on the left look vertically centered and then paint the rest white....See MoreOff white kitchen remodel- ideas for quartz counter top and backsplash
