A few more douglas firs from my gardens. Mostly giant weepers that I've tried to give some space. Some more then others! 'Yang's Green Weeper'. Not registered, grows somewhat slowly for a weeper, cascades nicely based on the mature specimen I have seen. Found as a seedling. 'Yang's Blue Weeper'. Another plant without an official name, this MONSTER weeper is more blue colored with bushy needles and enormous growth rate on the side and terminal branches. This plant in my garden isn't even established yet. Time to get staking. 'C. Sue'. Not much known about it though it does look like a Rocky Mountain variety. 2-3" growth a year. 'Whiskey Hill'. A newer variety introduced by Jason Hupp. Not much known here yet. 'Weep Willie'. Supposedly a large specimen but either I have the wrong cultivar or it doesn't like it's soil situation. Three years in the ground. Another unknown weeper, courtesy of Won Yang(Yang's botanical gardens, Port Orchard). 'Marshall'. No idea. -Will

I'm considering buying from Gee Farms and also found a bit of info Arrowhead Alpine's site. So interesting that it says that the branches have "no side stems"...though I still haven't seen a photo, I may just have to order it. Dax-thank you. That Snake is very cool. Hmmm, maybe I'll just have to find space for both.

Regarding the ants: carpenter ants are prevalent here. Most everybody has a pest control company come out once a year to spray. Lived here all my life ( and most recently in the heavily wooded areas of Kitsap county) and have yet to call out a pest control company for ants. Did find moisture ants (tiny little creatures about 1/4 the size of carpenters) in a bathroom wall of a house we were renting once but the shower was falling apart so pretty much to be expected there. If you see ants, they are a symptom, not the cause of the problem. Thatch ants will feed off the sap and carpenter ants will nest into the rotting wood. You could have Doug fir beetles - they are a very common source of both the sawdust, frass and weeping sap. There are also various fungal diseases loosely grouped as sap rots. None of these are good things.......best to get a certified arborist out to diagnose the tree and suggest treatment (maybe) or removal (likely).

You're right Stephen, Google will give us no info, but a closer investigation to Jorg Kohout's plantslist (see link) shows us that they have a 'Compacta Pendula'...which will not say that this cultivar namer is ilegitimate. I think Richard bought his plant at Kohout's and Clement took a pic at the same location which make it very easy that this cultivar is only availlable at on place. The specimen at Clement pic shows us a compact growth but I think this is because of replanting from their nursery to the gardencentre. If you keep this info in mind then it looks simular, if not the same as 'Glauca Pendula'... 'Glauca Pendula' Here is a link that might be useful: 'Compacta Pendula'
