need help identifying succulent

i bought this over a year ago and still dont know how to care for it. it likes to dry out a bit but fattens up when watered. the "joints" fall off easily but dont root when "planted". id love to know the identity of it.

I have a few pictures of my Hatiora that is blooming at the moment. As you can see, many of the segments are not like bottles. The yellow blooms at the ends of the segments prove that it is a Hatiora, not a Rhipsalis, which has its different looking blooms along the sides of the segments. Not the greatest pictures, but the best I have at the moment. It is planted in the same pot as a Thanksgiving cactus, that is what you see in the background.

It really looks like a Euphorbia, but I am not sure at all.

Hatiora I think. It's hard to say which one until it blooms. Maybe someone else will know.

Second one looks like Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, which could use more/stronger light (the leaves are pointing down, rather than upwards with deeper shade of green).

Photo #2 is a Kalanchoe daigremontiana - it propagates prolifically from tiny plantlets growing alongside the leaf edges (you could see couple of babies on one of the leaves). In some areas, they could become weedy :)

It is gorgeous plant. Looks quite old. I wouldn't think it is Portulacaria afra...I think Gill is right. Even if trunks of PA get woody as they age, wouldn't at least tips of very new branches be more reddish? My plant is much smaller and not very old, here is a trunk of it (more segmented, and segments look bit 'puffy'):The leaf growth patter seems to be just little different (not as much as rosette as on OP's plant), and leaves are more uniform in size and shape. New growth branches are more soft-juicy and reddish looking:Of course, I am just judging by what I have seen on my small plant and could be wrong...

Yes, some type of Rhipsalis, an epiphytic, tropical cactus.

Hey Bill, I'm no expert, but pretty sure it need outdoor light, or as close as you can get to it. Then it will flower when it's damn good and ready:-) No really,mine flower between July and November, depending on the variety. Keep in mind it's an epiphyte, so no hot sun and crazy good drainage.

Perhaps if you search for Rhipsalis, you'll find pix which match yours & then you can read up on care instructions. I'm not sure you can bloom it indoors.

Hatiora, maybe H. salicorniodes (sp?) AKA 'Drunkard's Dream', IMO one of the best common names EVER. I should think it would flower inside, but it will have to have outside-like conditions to do so.

Sorry Jeff, they have wrong segment shape for H.S. They're more bottle shaped than these, which are just long.

Not all Hatiora have the strong bottle shape, there are clones with more evenly cylindrical segments. You can see some more bottle shaped ones in the top right quarter of both pictures. The upright growth and the glossy, clear green colour indicate H. s. in my opinion. Rhipsalis neves-armondii comes closest, I think, but it is a definite trailer, and the skin is different. Blooms would be the decider. Mine is in bloom now, after a period in cooler temperatures and with less water. Mine did not bloom well when I left it in a heated room, cold seems to trigger bloom.

ive done some research using the names above and a few seem close. it looks like either itll be either yellow white or red flowers. my son thinks it looks like a drunkards dream as stated above but i was put off by the non clear bottle shapes. im anxious to discover though. thank you all for the help. i spent a few hrs looking at little thumb nails before i found this site.

I just got an ID on of my succulents like this, an epiphytic cactus as well. I placed a small piece of bark under the plant and secured it by barrying it in a little soil. I don't know if it will work, but I'm hoping it will root on the bark. Epiphytes grow on other plants.
