Rugosa alba roses, are a pain as they spread everywhere...but that scent is unforgettable

This isn't exactly about cleaning floors, more about keeping them nice once they ARE clean. I have dark walnut (think chocolate bars . . . ) engineered hardwood floors throughout the house, except for kitchen, baths, entry. They don't get 'dirty' per se, but, honestly, I don't think there is a person on this planet who could keep them dust-free. They get dusty in just a couple of days. Perfect solution? Roomba. He chugs all over, all by his little self. His HEPA filters catch ALL the dust. There is even noticeably less on the furniture. I guess that's because Roomba vacuums it up instead of just flinging it around everywhere the way a regular vacuum does. This is, of course, starting with a floor that's basically clean. If someone comes through and leaves a footprint, a damp cloth takes it right up. The tile is dealt with by Braava, Roomba's sister. As for the OP's question, I vote for taking up as much of the Murphy's as possible with warm water. Rinse, rinse again, then follow with the Glass Plus. Skate around on towels to wipe up the leavings.

No one said that scent is not important - it is very important, and it is especially important that the scents we want to enjoy are not obliterated by scents that we do not want. I was unable to detect the scents in food that I liked because they were being masked by the scent of the hand soap. Scents can also warn us of danger as much as they can delight us. I remember being constantly nauseated by the barnyard smells when I was growing up, and I would not wear shoes in the house that I had worn in the barn - I had to have galoshes to protect my shoes whenever I would go there. I saw one show on TV about human development, and it said that brothers find the scent of their sisters repulsive (and vice versa) thus helping to prevent interbreeding. Therefore scents are very personal, and what one person finds attractive, another person will find repulsive. For this reason, it is important to respect boundaries with regard to scents and not invade someone's space with unwanted fragrances. For me, the hand soap was a very unwanted fragrance. There are as many repulsive smells as there are pleasant ones. Smells also trigger the most intense memories, and olfactory memories have been shown to be some of the strongest. I've noticed this when I smell freshly cut grass.

My favorite rosy perfume is 'Voleur de Roses', but there are many rose fragrances I haven't smelled. In winter I like woodsy or oriental fragrances, but I do try not to wear anything strongly scented in public... too many people have been sensitized to fragrance by the overuse of synthetic fragrances in pretty much everything. (Can anyone explain why dishwasher detergent needs to be fragrant? And don't get me started on fabric softeners and air "fresheners"...) In warmer weather I prefer greens and fresh florals, sometimes with a hint of fruit. I loathe sharp-smelling or plastic-smelling synthetic scents. I used to love a lot of the classic French perfumes, but so many of them have been changed or discontinued. as has already been noted. For ages, my fave was Chanel No.19, which for me hit all the 'sweet spots' of florals, woods and greens. It has been reformulated at least once, though, and the magic is gone. I tend to like different scents for different seasons/ moods, but can't afford to buy nice stuff in bulk. What I do now to splurge is buy samples of things I can't otherwise afford. A $3-5 sample will last me a long time, especially if I buy some other $3-5 samples at the same time. I generally know what kinds of things I like and don't think it's a crisis if I try a sample of something I end up not liking much. A few perfumes I love, and look for in sample sizes are Méchant Loup, Déclaration, Infusion d'Iris and Chinatown. I used to really like Magie Noire and Rive gauche, but haven't smelled them in ages; probably they have changed? I think of most of these as unisex fragrances, though some are sold as men's fragrances. Perfumes are extraordinarily evocative for me. Smelling L'heure bleue or Ma Griffe reminds me of my grandmother. L'Air du temps makes me think of my mom, though I don't think she still wears it- or any perfume- anymore. Those are scents that don't suit me, but I loved smelling them then, and smelling them now brings back memories. For those of you who like sandalwood, a fairly inexpensive (and all-natural) soap to try is made by Sappo Hill; my local health food store sells it, but I often buy it online.
