Forcing forsythia stem to bloom indoors...
Comments (17)I think the end of the drive is a fine place for eye catching multi season interest through variety of plantings (not that this forsythia alone offers it). I like to enjoy a show from the end of the drive to the house though it is a short distance. I may not have time to wander the property and smell the flowers or inspect growing fruit after work but I always travel by the end of the driveway and the path home. I have installed an 70' bed on the east side of the driveway facing the road I take to and from work for the sole purpose to delight my eyes as I slowly pass by in the morning and evening. Mike would not have a garden that looks even remotely similar to the one he has now if he lived in the River Valley of Arkansas. His conifers wouldn't last a year in most situations without a ton of shadecloth all over which defeats the purpose of planting beautiful things to make a beautiful landscape, right? It is unfair to compare the two situations. And I suppose my general dislike of conifers does not help me much when trying to find a suitable evergreen to anchor the driveway. What evergreen would you suggest fit a space nearly directly under a powerline that could take full relentless summer sun with a southern exposure at my house and still look attractive all year? Realize we had two days 120* at my house last summer and a month and a half of 100* days in a row with no rain. One reason the forsythia is a good choice for my landscape is its durability in summer heat....See Moreforsythia blooming can I tip prune teas?
Comments (7)Just an O.T question, I was wondering which jasmine(?) you're referring to as winter jasmine over there. Over here we refer to Jasminum nudiflorum as winter jasmine, maybe it's the same over there in the US? I'm somewhat of a jasminoholic (on top of rosaholic) and I thought to ask. Another yellow vine that flowers at about this time is the so called Carolina jasmine (Gelsemium sempervirens) which is not really a Jasminum. Comments (68)Nice to see you check in treefrog and thanks again for the seeds,i have 2 of the goosecreeks growing now from seeds you sent and one brandyboy. Im surprised i havent read no where on this site or rthe other of anyone growing florida pink. These huge, 2 to 3 lb fruits are a gorgeous light pink. Extremely juicy, sweet and crack free, Florida Pink out-produces most plants in our garden. With very few seeds, huge production and great flavor, it is a favorite for cooking and fresh eating. Setting fruit well in hot areas, this beautiful tomato will be a fine addition to your garden. thats what laurel says about it. rowdy red is another i think will do well im growing. Named by Gary Ibsen, the seeds of this variety came to Gary from tomato breeder, Archie Millett, who crossed his favorite tomato varieties over many years to finally produce a disease resistant tomato with intense flavor. 'Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red,' is an open-pollinated tomato (78 days to maturity). The tall, indeterminate, plant produces lots of 2-inch (6-10 oz.), deep-red, round fruits with a subtle point on it's end. Fruit has robust, 'not for sissies,' bold, tomatoey flavors, with a firm, juicy flesh, that invites snacking in the garden, cooking, canning and seed-saving. Its fruity sweetness is perfectly balanced with plenty of acidity, earthy nuances and complexity. kirk Here is a link that might be useful: laurells tomato plants...See MoreWhich variety would you select?
Comments (3)I ordered from Logees a couple of times and was very satisfied with their plants. As of what to choose - it's a hard question. Get one of everything, LOL! Ihave 8" pot of curtissii, but it never bloomed for me yet. I love it for the foliage (I love all small leaves hoyas). I also have same serpens - also never bloomed yet. Lacunosa is realy cute, I had one tiny cuttings flowered a couple fo times, now I got a 5"pot full of it and hoping for more flowers this summer. All of the above are pretty forgiving and likes to be on a dry side....See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
