Having trouble picking island counter top to match, please help
Comments (2)We have a traditional kitchen but similar colors to yours---white Shaker perimeter and dark cherry island. Our perimeter counters are a dark green granite with a lot of "movement" and the island is a white guartzite called luce di luna. The quartzite is a real stone, slightly harder than granite I'm told but I'm not sure, and at least in our area a bit more expensive. It is, however, very calm and I could see it in a modern kitchen such as you describe. When we priced out granite, quartzite, and zodiaq we found the price difference for our kitchen was really rather negligible so we went with the granite and the quartzite but if the zodiaq---I think it was misty carrera that we were considering---had been much less we would have used that instead of the quartzite. Comments (12)Thanks - and I was planning the white perimeter uppers and lowers with a darker quartz counter top ( i like the darker charcoal -matte finish- on top of the white cabinets)and the light gray island cabinet with marbled quartz top. I do love a dark gray cabinet but I have a small kitchen and worried it may be too dark. We are a family of 5 with three messy kids - although they are getting older and less messy lol. Ill have to look at the stained gray - i just dont like to see the grain of wood in cabinets. This island below has the pendants I will do (I'll do 2 smaller Hicks pendants). I like the look of this island and top and the white cabinets with dark quartz in lower pic what do you think?...See MoreNeed quick opinions please- cabs and counters
Comments (0)My classroom (I'm a foods teacher) is getting all new cabinetry and counters. I was able to convince the school admin to do something other than the standard matte black laminate cabinets we currently have as they end up looking gross with drips and fingerprints. I was just given a sample box to select from and I'm leaning towards a medium wood grain for the cabinets and a light linen look counter. Appliances are stainless and walls are a creamy off white. Right now the counters are a rose-red and mostly look okay in terms of wear. I'd like to go lighter to brighten up the space, but I've never had a light colored laminate counter myself. Should I worry about staining issues? Cabinet sample: Duramine American Black Walnut Counter top sample: Wilsonart Crisp Linen Thoughts? I need to make a decision asap and I'm worried about making a mistake. ***I'm leaning towards the walnut look cabs as there are two solid natural maple(?) doors in my classroom and I want there to be contrast with the real wood doors. The walnut sample doesn't seem all that dark in real life. Classroom has windows on two walls....See MorePlease Help with counter tops materials!
Comments (5)It really depends on the size of the island and it's prominence in the room. I have gray cabinets and Glacier White Corian countertops on all my perimeter counters. Since my kitchen is small (and enclosed), I don't have room for a "true island" so I have an Ikea island cart. It came with a solid birch top. The cart itself was in natural birch, but I painted it black as I wanted it to sort of "float" in the kitchen. I have oiled the heck out of the top and do it every 6 months or so. It warms up the wood considerably. I also have mid-brown hardwood floors. I'm not a "matchy" girl so I didn't want them to match and actually wanted the island top to be a bit lighter. The kitchen itself is "warmed up" by using polished bass pulls on all the cabinets, the warm brown hardwood floors, and by some display polished copper. That's really all it takes....See MoreUser
