Speaking of new trees....have any of you imported citrus to US?

Comments (13)beachy, the trees can be saved, but it will be some work on your part. We can't really see what's going on as the photo has such poor contrast and is so far away, can't see the specifics. But, here is the list of to-do's: 1. Weed under the trees and mulch. 2. Fix the drip systems so the trees are getting adequate waterings. Nice, deep waterings once or twice a week. At least 2 feet down, depending upon how hot the day is. 3. Prune out all the dead wood. 4. Put out rodent traps. Wrap the trunks with chicken wire to discourage further gnawings on the trunk (probably rabbits, possibly citrus/roof rats). 5. Fertilize VERY WELL at the drip line. Water in well. Repeat in 1 month x 3. Then more to 3-4 fertilizing applications a year. Use a good quality fertilizer with micros. 6. Treat for CLM (Citrus Leaf Miner) which will also take care of any aphids. Aphids are not the same as psyllids, which is what you are referring to regarding Citrus Greening. Which we do not have here in the state of California - yet. We have the psyllid but not the disease that the psyllids can carry. Aphids do not carry Citrus Greening. They can carry other diseases, but if you treat for Citrus Leaf Miner now, and then a second application in 6 months and continue to do so every 6 months, you'll also control any possible psyllids that might end up reaching your area (you don't say where you are in California, so I can't tell you if psyllids have been found in your area of Calif.) Old trees can be worth saving, especially if they are on sour orange, which produces the absolute sweetest sweet citrus imaginable. Please let us know how you fare. Comments (15)Sorry,,, I disagree with the time it takes for maturity. If you get cuttings from a mother or papa plant, you can have flowers and fruit immediately. I have some pics to prove it, coming soon. I have fruit and blooms on plants as small as tall as 5 inches high in 4 inch pots. Had blooms on ponderosa lemons that were 2 inches tall. If your one who wants fruit and flowers right away, then order from a company your sure that can send you cuttings. I don't even have to fertilze them, and they still perform beautifully, except for a yellowing leaf here and there if they are lacking iron, nitrogen, or from overwatering, and or lack of sunlight. If you are not sure of the plants origination, how it was started, then yes, you may have to wait for years as fofoca has said,the chance you take especially if your plant is grown original seed or grafted onto lousy stock.. I have experienced plants from where you got yours, and after 2 years and no performance, in the trash and to my friends they went. My sister still has an orange tree from them that is 8 feet high now, and still no flowers. They feed it regulary, and give it ALL day sun on the field.. I wish I could just enjoy citrus for their foiliage, but I don't. So that is why I got them from elsewhere..;-)...See MoreThe most important feature you wanted in your new home?
Comments (41)I just sold my 1930s Dutch Colonial in suburban Philadelphia. Some of the feedback I received from buyers was that the lack of a garage was a non-starter. However, my neighborhood was a popular one, and most houses in it lack a garage. (And my house sold in less than a week). The house I moved to has an enclosed carport. Sort of weird. Prior owners enclosed it to use for storage purposes. Down the road, I'm going to explore the possibility of adding a garage door. I've never had a garage - first lived in the city and had on-street parking, then moved to the suburbs and was excited to have my own driveway. There are many here that ABSOLUTELY need to use vinegar in their fertilizer solution and those that are lucky they do not have too. I see no point in it at all because everyone's water and pH is different. Some use rain water and some have tap that is just right, while others can't use rain water and others have the worst tap like I do. Some can't afford the other products suggested for their potted plants and use vinegar as a cheaper method that does work for the short term every time they fertilize. I'd like to know who uses it, regularly, and what happens over time when they stop? Sounds like a great thread I should start. ) There are going to be those that swear by it like I do, and many that have seen unbelievable/remarkable improvements in their trees within days , so good that they have no need to come here for help any more for YELLOWING , dull , and poorly nutrient fed almost lifeless trees, and then those who keep looking for answers to get them as vivd green and as healthy as possible as some folks around here. Vinegar as been very useful just as other acidifying products out there, especially for potted plants...Another tool in the bag sort of to say...... Also too, I can see the difference between those that make sure their pH is in harmony with their fertilizer over the years here, as compared to those that give pH no consideration especially for potted trees. A select few say they don't use vinegar at all and in my opinion not that it matters have less than ideal vivid trees to me, and many that use other products which I would like to know about that works and theirs look great..Now that would be very helpful. don't you agree? By the way, vinegar does a great job at lowering the fertilizer solution which is why many use it, and not for the purpose of lowering the 'soil' pH. Have a great day my friend Mike...See More
