The oil goes in the water--the oil is concentrated, so that it isn't diluted enough that you can't enjoy the fragrance. My DH's nose has been broken several times, so his sense of smell is really poor...but he can smell the fragrance. I have two diffusers--both are 500 ml, which is a good size because they can run all night long. The lights are soothing, and can serve as a night light (you can turn the lights off, or choose just one color). I love them!!

I love mine. You put water in to the max line using the cup they give you. Then you add the oil drop by drop to the water, how much determines how strong you want the smell, I have a little stir stick I use to mix up the oil and water into smaller drops. You can let it run till it runs out of water and it turns off or you can let it run a few hours and turn it off. The light is independent so can be on or off. If you get a large volume container it will run all through the night. I got mine from Amazon and I got one set of oils there too but I wanted to choose my own scents so I found a good source on ebay with very good reviews so I ordered my favorites there. I didn't want to have a lot of light so that is one of the reasons I picked the one I got. It has worked perfectly. And I have to say it's on sale now!

I have severe scent allergies so I was very cautious about this but using pure essential oils has been fine.

As mentioned in the last thread on a similar subject, items like these may not be appropriate for people with pulmonary difficulties/breathing problems or allergies.

I bought one at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They also sell the oil.

Beware, the mist collects on overhead light fixtures, ceiling fans, window glass, mirrors, wall art, hardwood floors, etc.

I bought one a few weeks ago, based on everyone's reviews here. I love it! My husband hasn't had to use his saline spray for his nose in the night since we started running it.

I find the scent lessens as the hours go on, which is fine. I like it to run all night for the humidity benefits.

Raven, thanks for the link to the oils on ebay! Definitely going to check that out. I bought a set of 8 on Amazon and of the 8 I think we only really like 3 of them. They had names like comfort, relaxation, etc. so I couldn't really tell what the actual scents were. I prefer to pick out specific ones from now on.

I buy the oils on Amazon--you can get sales, and different deals. I usually buy the 4 oz. size, and can get most scents in the $10-20 range. (The little 10ml bottles are only 1/3 of an ounce, so they are fairly expensive.)

I started a conversation about this a few weeks ago. We haven't gotten one yet. We sleep with the window wide open as well as the rear door cracked open. There's a lot of fresh air, breeze in the bedroom. I'm sure this will negate the benefits and we wouldn't even smell the oils.

I have thought of just buying a small bottle and putting some on a cotton ball and sticking it between our pillows to see if it helps us sleep better. Our friends told us about how much they love the lavender for sleeping, when we were with them over New Years.

I'm very sensitive to scents and I don't want anything strong at all.

Our neighbour burns incense all the time, and her home reeks, and the cats are exposed to it. I feel so sorry for them. I get a headache after being there for any short period of time, and it even gets absorbed in any yogurt containers, etc that she might give me for whatever reason.

Jasdip, I am a poor sleeper and the lavender seems to help me. Mind you, I love the smell so it is soothing. Perhaps you could make a spray to lightly mist your pillow case. Nothing beats fresh air!

Jasdip I have severe scent allergies, have had to leave places due to someone with a lot of scent on and I would go into a full blown asthma attack. Some were pretty scary. I was very cautious about the essential oils but with the quality oils I have purchased I have not had any problems. With the diffuser the scent is never overwhelming it's a very gentle light scent. I was recently having a hard time sleeping, I put a few drops of the lavender on a cotton facial wipe pad and put it on the table beside my bed where the fan would blow across it. I could definitely smell it in the air. It was relaxing.

There's a store in the mall that sells these and they have them going all the time and I hate to walk by there. It's just so strong and overpowering. I use all unscented products. I'm not allergic, I just don't like unnecessary smells.

Some of the essential oils are very dangerous to pets expecially cats..if you have a pet check with your vet first.

Essential oil diffuser is beneficial in some points. It can help purify dry air and release aroma mist which is used in aromatherapy. For people who love Yoga or SPA, add a few drops of oil into the water is perfect. But for those arthritics and diabetics, it is better not to use the oil diffuser.
