stacked upper cabinets- mixing solid & glass on the upper uppers?
Comments (18)illini girl, it will look fine! Having looked again at a bazillion Houzz kitchens and finished kitchens on Pinterest with the glass upper-uppers lit, and UCL, I'm noticing how much the color of the light affects the overall look. I've elected not to have my upper-uppers (which are glass on the range wall and half glass half solid on my refrig wall) not lit. Hope I don't regret it. edit - I just went and looked at my elevation pics and realized that even on my range wall not all my upper-uppers are glass. more from Houzz [Beach Style Kitchen[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/beach-style-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2110) by Stone Harbor Architects & Designers Asher Associates Architects [Traditional Kitchen[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-kitchen-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_709~s_2107) by Atlanta General Contractors Blake Shaw Homes, Inc And to answer the other question re posting pics directly from Houzz - there is an icon called "embed" on the houzz page - either at the bottom of the picture or off to the side at the bottom. Click on it, and it will give you two choices, large or small. Most here are posted using the large format. Click on one and it will highlight the whole embed code. Copy it and pasted it onto the GW forum page....See MoreLook weird? Upper cabinets different color than lowers?
Comments (12)Budge and RM's kitchens are great examples of how this look can work great. Both kitchens are nicely grounded by the dark cabinets and opened up to appear more spacious by the light uppers. Things like cabinets of different colors and heights don't work after the initial fad has passed if they were only introduced as visual gimmicks and don't fulfill a genuine decorative function. But stepping outside the standard box in favor of one that's actually the right fit for your space is often needed to get the best kitchen possible--which is always one that makes you glad to be there....See MoreBest Way to Achieve Stacked cabinet look
Comments (7)In my limited cabinet shopping experience split doors is much cheaper than stacked cabinets. And the labor for hanging one cabinet instead of two would also be a difference. I mocked up the dimensions and ended up going with 33 and 15 since I like that proportion better with 9' ceilings and I will be able to get larger items into that top cabinet. Do a cardboard mock-up, and hang it on the wall to see what it'll look like in person from your viewpoint. I also agree with Sophie that it matters where your fridge ends as well since if it's 'off' it'll take away from the visual you're trying to achieve....See MoreUpper Cabinet Question
Comments (23)Cabinet Builder does not always equate Kitchen Designer, &, vice versa. I was a Cabinetmaker before I was a Designer. I was trained as a Kitchen Designer later in life. Before my training, I did not in all honesty, know the true ins & outs of Kitchen design. I could build anything you wanted though. Designing a kitchen is not simply dropping any cabinet into a any space and expecting it to function properly or look proper. Likewise, I know many Designers who will design something but have no clue how to build it, or, even if it can be built. The 2 need to work together in many cases when it comes to true custom items....See MoreBuehl
