what does a cactus or succulent look like when it needs water?
Comments (2)Its a tough question because of (1) the wide variety of plants in the succulent family, and (2) the signs of underwatering can be strangely similiar to those of overwatering at first. Ive made mistakes both ways and lost plants, but I will say that by far, I have lost more to overwatering than to under. So if in doubt, do not water would be my advice (and watch the plant carefully). What BB was saying is right... its called desication. Generally, if a cactus is water stressed, it is using a lot of its water reserves and therefore will shrink somewhat. This can best be observed on species with deep ribbing, the plants ribs will close down like an accordion. WIth proper water, the ribs will open up and the plant will get fatter. Hope that helps a little....See MoreDoes this look like mold issues, what can be done?
Comments (3)Thanks for the quick replies. -that's what Im afraid of is just trapping issues with foam or whatever. But I haven't been able to get them to do anything drastic about it (and probably wouldn't be worth it IMO short of demolish - I would have done that awhile ago but they just wanted to fix [dump money] it). They've come up with these ideas of covering the floor with rubber mats, foaming the walls, etc to keep moisture out but Im not sure I like that. And getting a 'commercial' dehumidifier. They did try an exhaust fan but didn't seem to do good, was bringing in warmer/moister air from outside into a cooler basement and was more damp. Some days better than others depending on outside conditions. The air exchanger is drawing out of the basement though. Ive tried telling them about drainage but got shot down...'we're not digging up the basement'. Im afraid of it affecting our health, the smell is upstairs (not as strong). I added the pictures to the link URL, hopefully that helps, let me know. I don't do much pictures. Here is a link that might be useful: basement pictures...See MoreKA KUDE60 Top Rack Issue. Does Your's Look Like This?
Comments (12)Hey Monica - it's possible ours are different, but I'm guessing not. Can you see the difference between the two pictures I took? In the top one, though fuzzy, the plastic trays are nestled within the framework of the sliders. In the bottom tray they hang below. It's to enable larger utensils or the like up there. The way to switch is to empty the trays and lift them out. You will see there is a plastic ledge on the plastic trays that hangs over a metal space on the gliding mechanism. This space is located up high in the "north-south" direction, and it is located down lower in the "east-west" direction, if you follow (unless it's the other way around ;) ). So to switch you have to lift the trays up and out and turn them 90-degrees. This is way more difficult to try to explain with words than just do. If you lift out the plastic racks, it will likely all become clear. Whether any of this is relevant to your problem, I don't know! But it does enable another sizing option. I have occasionally used it though truthfully, I usually just forget it exists too. ;) I can post another internal-perspective picture if you need, but I'm guessing it'll be obvious once you start fiddling....See MoreWhat does heat damaged Quartz look like?
Comments (10)Treb, if only you lived near us! I have often lamented my cracked sink that failed shortly after the kitchen remodel, We are having to replace a whole run of granite just to replace the sink. It had to be the longest run in the kitchen.. They are finally coming next week to template. There was no way to get the sink out. We tried, it has a large flange and it's under mounted into a bit of smaller cabinet but fit easily enough if you never had to remove it. We couldn't find our original granite again and the place we got it is out of business. I chose something similar but it's not ever going to be right. $2300 just for that long run of granite, ouch. It took awhile to justify, but the plumber said it could start leaking due to rusting out the cast iron under the enamel. It's ugly too from the enamel being all cracked and pock marked. It was brand new when installed and expensive and a well known brand. Yeah, my nickname is Lucky... The repair you did on the quartz and other photos I have seen of your granite repairs are outstanding. This post was edited by gr8day on Sun, Oct 5, 14 at 20:46...See Morewoodnative
