Hi, Yep you're right about me wanting to remove the tile and dropping a piece of wood in the top. NO, I wouldn't be doing this myself. The only thing I'll at least try and help with is removing the tile. I'll throw around the idea of replacing the whole top. I was aiming for just the middle piece because I like the rest (of the top and the whole table) and I also assumed it would be cheaper. If I were to have the whole top replace do you still think I should use maple? I'm open to suggestions on other types of wood to use too. Thanks!

Sarahbr, although I like your tile very much, for my master bath I'm looking for a darker almost black color. The more flooring stores I go to I'm learning bigger is what's in even in herringbone pattern, therefore I'm only finding 6x24 as the smallest porcelain floor tile. I may cave and just do that. I went to two more flooring stores today and they both have installed 6x24 herringbone in mid sized and small bathrooms. I saw Chip and Joanne just do a bathroom in herringbone pattern and the tiles look larger. Lol love their show!

Could be a cherry. that's possible. The graining is rather pronounced though. And they could have done a slightly reddish stain on american walnut. I did my own Walnut wood top and it looks like this the corbels look like quarter sawn cut. It could also be a mahogany. So, HU, it's one of those 3 wood types!

^^ Mrs. S gives good advice above. I'm in the camp that thinks that woods just sorta all go together, as long as you're in the ballpark of matching them tonally. There's nothing wrong with oak floors and a knotty alder door, for example -- but keep the tone of the natural wood or stain consistent. That said, hickory is BOSSY, so you do have to be careful with tying it in with everything else. I have natural hickory kitchen cabinets and love them. I have red oak floors and reclaimed wood island and custom barn door and window trim, all stained Provencial. I doubt anyone walks into my house and thinks what is this world coming to SHE MIXED WOODS!!! But I was careful with my stain choice to tie it all together (I like dark wood, and I really like the contrast of the dark wood against the natural hickory cabinets).
