I think I figured it out....

Val's nosebleeds. They were very minor but I am so uneasy about him, that every little thing worries me. His feet looked bad...I took him for xrays. I found probably the best farrier around to shoe him. My vet is an equine specialist. I have champagne tastes on a R C Cola budget. I take a thrown away old horse destined for slaughter and spare no expense trying to get him back to good health. So I watch him closely and I fret over every aspect of his care and rehab.

I went out to feed him this evening and he was finishing up his bag of hay. I give him hay in a bag that has an opening towards the bottom. He always eats like it is his last meal. He was thrusting his nose into the bag with such force....I think a piece of hay, even though it is very fine hay, poked him in the nose. The bleed was very minor....not even enough to drip down. But having had a horse that developed cancer on the side of his head.... I worry. So hopefully much to do about nothing. I will still watch him and talk to the vet about it.

Okay....I think I'm going to be alright. ;)

Awwww, Marilyn, he's really starting to trust you. He's going to love you, just as soon as he knows he's safe. I'm so glad he's there with you.

And what a detective, it does sound like you've solved the bleed mystery. I hope you're right, that it's just something simple and nothing to worry about.

There could be a piece of hay/stick up his nose even. My friend was telling me that a friend of theirs had this dog that kept doing that weird sneeze that dogs do and when they took him to the vet, they pulled a stick out of his nose! :O

Jim - I would say that yes, almost all of them did. The ones that didn't have spindly canes and no buds yet. BUT - the ones that did have some canes broken are blooming very nicely now - it's just that they could have had even more blooms. Abe Darby has about 25 buds and 2 bloomso open. So I am getting buds/blooms. It's just frustrating when the canes break off at the base and I'm holding this long cane with about 5 buds on it. I have so much to learn still. :) Yeah Seil - I think that is the culprit. Live and learn and learn some more. LOL Carol

Some new machines have it in the washers now too. I'm helping a friend with research and both Samsung and LG have it in the washer on some models. I hope I'm right. I went out to brush the mud off of him today and didn't get much of it off because I only took a brush with me, but he enjoyed it so much when I brushed his face. He let me put my arms around his neck and he stood so still with his face against me and closed his eyes. It really touched me that he was so content and relaxed. I am so fond of him, I don't think I could stand for anything bad to happen to him.

I've followed Val's story and am sooooo pulling for him. I'm sorry it's taking so long for him to see the vet and farrier, but it does sound like he's improved tremendously under your tender, loving care. I wish I could have seen a picture of you with your arms around him, and hr with his face against yours and eyes closed. He knows, Marilyn, he knows.

It really bothers me that he has to go so long before his hooves (I almost wrote paws...HA!) get taken care of. Those hooves just continue to grow and grow getting worse and worse. I'll be glad when that is done! Poor fella!

I hate it to. If they didn't want to do more xrays, he wouldn't have had to wait so long. It was hard coordinating the farrier and the vet. I was told that the farrier has 756 clients. I don't know if that is individual people or the number of horses. This told to me by the farrier (now retired), who recommended him to me. He is supposed to be super good and conscientious. Vet recommended him too. I will be glad to get this over with. I don't like to let him walk around any more than necessary.
