Address Book in Outlook

I moved my data from an old PC to a newer one that has W10. I went into Outlook, clicked File, Open & Export, Open Outlook Data File, selected an outlook.pst file, imported the outlook.pst file but the contacts did not "move", ie, the address book is empty. Are the contacts stored in a file that I am not aware of?

Might look in your win10 "Peoples" app.

Thanks for the reply, Mikie. I am not sure what you intended me to do but, after fiddling with "what I think you said", I did not see any changes... when I tried to send an email again. My old Pc had Outlook 2003 if that makes a difference. It died so I cannot look at it but I restored the files from backups.

I have just loaded Outlook on a new notebook, Outlook 2002. I've used this version of Outlook since 2002, but alas that notebook did a big crash. The good news, I had all but the last two days of message folders on a back up drive, in a folder called "Exchange". Now, on my old XP home there was a folder called "OutlookFolders" which had "Exchange" and other details in it. So, all I need to do is copy the back-up data into the new computer's "OutlookFolders", but I can't find them, nor can the XP search. I do have folders maked to shoe hidden. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks tumblenweed, it appears i can not do what i want. i saw the categories but frankly these are distribution lists ie more than 1 email address bundled into 1 generic name. so if you want to email 12 different people, grouping them into a distrib list makes it easy to send an email to them as you select just 1 recipient vs selecting all 12 individually. it would make no sense to put my commonly contacted email addresses into a distb list as then i'd be sending email to all them. it sure was nice to be able to put people into groups (folders) and then open that folder and select the address i wanted vs looking thru dozens of email addresses. i am surprised that yahoo hasn't figured this out. the only way around this is to put a prefix in front of email names that will then sort them and group them together. what a dopey way to get this but i may do it. thanks, tom

Vista created 2 user--how to combine into one

Just got a new computer & it has Vista; however, in transferring all files from old one to the new one, it created 2 users. How can I combine them into one since I'm the only one using it? My address book in Outlook is on one user & only the contacts on the other. I see the instructions for putting the contacts in the address book, but it's greyed out & will not let me do it. Any ideas how to fix these two problems?

I just did a test. I have a fairly new comcast account but I don't use their smartzone email. I use Thunderbird and have my comcast, gmail and hotmail accounts in Thunderbird. I also have outlook on my computer but have never used it. The test was this. I exported my Thunderbird address book to a csv (comma seperated values) file. I then imported it into the smartzone using the method I posted above (preferences then click on 'address book' in the preferences column) that worked so I exported them from there and imported them into my gmail account. It worked with no problem at all and I have a fairly large address book.

Quite a few things could have gone wrong during export of the .pst file

Thx, will review that.

But I did not export, zep516. I used a service called Carbonite to back up files (Office 2003) and then used it to restore files for use in Office 2013.

Since you did not mention what version of Outlook you are using, I suppose that it's the latest.

The old Outlook was 2003 and the new one is 2013.

I used a service called Carbonite to back up files (Office 2003) and then used it to restore files for use in Office 2013 and in the new PC. Note: I did not do an Outlook "export".
