Bathroom Faucet Shutoff valve question

Jose Munoz Jr.

I was getting a leak from my shutoff valve (under my bathroom vanity for cold water) and I tried taking a pipe wrench to the shutoff valve and turning it. I did not know that I had to use a wrench to hold it while I turned the compression valve. Instead, I started turning the whole pipe. Did I possibly mess something up and not know it? I stopped after a while.

Actually, I stopped because my P-trap corroded at the s curve and started leaking. There's a small hole there now. Thankfully it's a bathroom faucet so right now I just have the water turned to off at the faucet until I can get back to it with some more experienced eyes guiding me
