Tree roses from J&P
Comments (7)Thanks for everyone's comments. Just wanted to provide an update: JP shipped the tree roses within two weeks. They were in great health! I was relieved. They are leafing out. I have plastic clear garbage bags over them, with a few holes poked through and I will poke more as I see more growth. I used wet sphagnum (sp?) moss and put them in the middle of the canes. Rosenut (Karl) recommended a sponge in the middle of the bush if I didn't have any moss. I had purchased a package of four from Target JUST for that purpose, but of course I couldn't locate them in my frenzy when I was potting up the roses. I looked everywhere! So I used leftover moss from a previous orchid purchase. I'll probably find those elusive sponges after the roses get established, of course....See MoreBought $383 worth of roses on J&P last night
Comments (23)Last week I received 2 roses (DAs "Crocus Rose" and "White Pearl in a Red Dragon's Mouth") from Ashdown Roses. I got an email that they were on sale. They were in excellent shape, and the Dragon's mouth rose has 3 new buds on it. I also received (DAs "Christopher Marlowe") from Jung Seeds a week or so ago, also. It, too was in excellent condition. I would definitely order from either place again. Ashdown's sent me an email that they were delaying shipment until the weather cooled a little....and then the rose arrived as was promised. I am sorry you had a bad experience with J&P....however, you are not the first person I've heard that's unhappy with them. Hope you can get a response from them, or either your money back. Comments (2)They are very charming and I like the illustrations. However do you find all these books, Ann? I found this information on JW Riley. 1849Â1916, American poet, b. Greenfield, Ind., known as the Hoosier poet. He was at various times a traveling actor, a sign painter, and a newspaperman. Under the name "Benj. F. Johnson of Boone" he began to write verse in the Hoosier dialect for the Indianapolis Journal in 1875, selections first collected in "The Old SwimminÂ-Hole" and ÂLeven More Poems (1883). RileyÂs verse was popular because of its humor, pathos, simplicity, and sentimentality. Especially well-known are his childrenÂs poems such as "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Runaway Boy." Among the collections of his verse are Rhymes of Childhood (1890) and Knee Deep in June (1912). 1 See biography by M. Dickey (Youth, 1919; Maturity, 1922); study by P. Revell (1970). Comments (22)WOW!!!!! These are some really great pictures! Diane and Seil I love your pictures of Julia Child! I lost mine last year and I have it ordered from Chambless for Spring delivery...I can't wait! Marina, my husband and I just bought 10 acres of former pasture land to build on, and your photos are making me go crazy with ideas! About 5 of the acres are totally flat clear pasture, and the back 5 is wooded with a creek running through. The soil scientist who serveyed it told us the back side of the property near the creek is excellent for crops...but all I heard was "ROSES WILL BE HAPPY THERE" lol. I'm thinking I may try to do some of the mega-climbers/ramblers on the back wooded part (think Ramblin Rector types). We actually just staked our house and barn this afternoon so we can get our septic permits...I CANNOT wait! Now I just need to take cuttings of my bushes that I can't move from my current house so I don't lose those.... Tammy Forgot to add my own pics (Love the "edit" feature!) Julia Child (my original plant that I lost...but have a new one ordered!)
