Night rooms vs. Day rooms: how to turn one into the other?

Do any of you have rooms that look much better by day or by night than vice versa? I'm wondering what elements make a room look better by day vs. at night?

I am very happy with how my living room looks at night--the colors look nice, it's in the right place between casual/cosy and formal for my taste, and it works well for how we use it. It's the room we sit in to read, listen to music, laptop activities, etc.

By the brighter/whiter light of day, I kind of hate it. Some of the colors don't fit together so well, the candles that look so nice at night appear more like clutter and in general it just looks flat. Other than keeping the blinds half shut to cut down on the harsh reality, I'm wondering what else I might do to improve it by day.

Anyone else have the same situation, or any recommendations?
