Needing to trade for Brug cuttings and crinums after a fire

Hi Everyone. I have been on , well Gardenweb for over 10 years...just not in the past couple of years after the change. I don't even know if my lists are still on here . I grow a lot of Brugmansias and other plants, but we had a fire on the 29th, one of the heater's in the greenhouse overheated I guess, but it burnt up half of my 24' greenhouse, where all of my brugs, crinum lilies, and some other plants were being kept over the winter. I trimmed them all back, cut the melted plastic pots off the roots, tried to root the cuttings I trimmed, but they were burnt and the skin slid off and molded. My crinum lilies all charred and burnt...it was a pretty big loss between the materials of the greenhouse and my plants. I DO have other plants, but of course it's winter and I can't dig them right now. I also have tons of seeds. My trading list is NOT up to date. I have lost plants, I have gained plants, so please don't go by that if it's still on here somewhere. I am just heartbroken at what I've lost, but hoping to trade for some cuttings to get things going again for spring. Does anyone have any to trade ? I can come up with a list of what I could trade now, as I had already moved some tropical into the garage for the winter, thank God for that. I am in East TN, Zone 7, and we are having a really weird warm couple of weeks so it is a good time for shipping here. My email is fai34@chartertn.net.

I will be glad to send you Crinums in early spring. I grow mine in the garden and they are dormant right now. Sorry for your loss and glad that you and your family are ok.

Hi Susan, I haven't' seen you in ages. Thank you for the offer. I would be happy to trade you something from my garden. I still have a massive selection of Daylilies, sedums, etc.

Boy time really got away with me. I'm been so busy with work and I just interviewed for a Masters Program at UT Southwest Medical here in Dallas, whew I'm exhausted! :) Here are the rest of my Brugs! :) I took these after work one day so they are a little darker than normal. Good idea, Eloise, about the markers. I had no idea that wasn't toxic to the plants. Thanks pkponder! Coleus was really easy to start from seed. I started a thread in the Container Garden forum, if you wanna check out the coleus progress! :) It'd be interesting to try different types of ferts but right now I'll stick with what I have on hand. I don't have access to any other fert than store bought ones... Yaslan, this is my first time growing from seed. I got a Wizard mix, which is a bunch of different types of coleus and I used pretty much the whole package and got lots of seedlings! Ashley

I'm in Galveston, I cut them off, pull off all the leaves and shove them into a pot full of Scots or miracle gro, water well, stick them by the back porch and they get watered with everything else or if they look wilted. 100% success rate. With our climate and the humidity it's much easier than everyone else. It's not supposed to get really cold yet, this next cold front will only get into 40's way north, if your in town it'll be warmer, 60's on the island, then it's going to warm up again. I have no luck rooting in water, they rot no matter what I do. And in soil I don't have to worry about changing water or the dog drinking the water. If yours don't make it let me know, I've got 20 or so rooted & growing by the back porch that need to be planted somewhere. I can meet you or if you come down to the island you can buzz by & pick up all you want. Along with anything else you'd like cuttings or divisions of. Tally HO!

It was scary as heck...the greenhouse is feet from my house, and I've never experienced a fire of any kind. The fire expanded the plastic so it was the huge 'POP' of the greenhouse plastic that alerted us to the fire. I think all in all, we were extremely lucky.

I can dig my Crinums now. I do not know the names of many of them but can send you a bulb of each one. Please let me know if you still want them.

Are you looking for any particular brugs? I know some people are really big about names. I'm going to try to cut 2 of mine up Tuesday evening (a yellow and a pink, both NOIDs). I'm cutting them up to send to a couple of people. If you don't mind NOIDs I can send you some as well. I'm in Western NC zone 7. I'll have to check, but I might even have a Pink Perfektion (if it made it) that I can send a cutting of as well.

Hi Reita, well I used to be, but I also had noids..now I don't know what I have, or if it's going to make it ( the name tags melted )...my crinums seem to be coming back better from the fire, than my brugs are, but it's like a wait and see game with them you know ? I would love some cuttings and can trade you something from my outside garden, or pay postage, whatever you like. Thank you .

Private message me your address and I'll send you some. I haven't had a chance to cut them yet (sick grand baby). I'm going to cut them tonight or in the morning and ship tomorrow because with my work schedule I won't have another chance until next Thursday. If you'd like to send me something pretty much anything hardy to zone 7 would be fine. I know you are trying to restart after a fire so if you don't have anything that is fine too. I'll still be more than happy to send you whatever I can.

Are any of you in zone 7 ? I was lucky enough that most of my crinums came back from the fire, but all of their tags did melt...anyway I am trying to figure out if they would over winter outside in large pots ? I have very little inside room and already have a massive amount of Brugmansias and other tropicals to bring in.
