I think my rose is dying, can anyone help?
Comments (6)The yellowness of the foliage looks chlorotic, which if there is any iron in your soil at all, the foliage will green up as soon as the soil warms up more. In colder soil, roots have a harder time accessing the iron that is there in the soil. "Iron chlorosis is known to be aggravated by cool soil temperatures and conditions that restrict air movement into soil: plastic sheet mulching, compaction, and water-saturated conditions. " In warmer soil, the roots can make use of the iron. Yellow canes--those are usually on their way out. The plant looks like it still has some good healthy areas, so nothing to get too worried about yet. Chlorosis is rather complex--no "instant" cure, but no need to to jump on and Do Something About It today. Read about it and get a good understanding of your soil and when/if it happens, so you can develop a long term correction, if necessary. There are some good articles from State agricultural sites and universities. Here is a link that might be useful: one example article on chlorosis U of Utah...See Moreok, let's try this again...can anyone help me id this for sure?
Comments (3)Try taking samples to a local nursery. Or, maybe there is a public collection within reasonable driving distance - reasonable probably defined by how badly you want to know - that actually has the same variety, with a name....See MoreCan anyone do a mock up backsplash for me? I am at it again...
Comments (21)I see I cross posted with a couple of other people doing mock ups. Jodi's right, the shadows make it look like a patchwork quilt and like I said, the lack of variation in the tile makes it difficult. Also, lighting is a factor. I try to flip the tile and work it in to give it more of a random pattern sometimes. I assumed these are 12x12 sheets of tile and scaled them all the same. Still not to scale in your kitchen, but figuring the normal space between countertop and cabinets is 18", I have two tile sheets (24") in that space. So they are smaller than they would really be. Didn't think about that while I was actually doing the mock-ups! DUH! LOL! Anyway, I'll let others take over for a while if they want to. Comments (23)I agree with Nik's experience very much, and whilst Bierkreek have been helpful and in English, I also don't like their website too much. As for 'My Roses', I am wondering if there is something wrong with me, as when I check on their site, I cannot see any roses listed, just a lot of information in German. To find which roses they have, I had to look on HMF and see they have 500 or so, but I cannot see any of this on their website, which would disappoint me. Maybe I am missing something. I think, over here, we are blessed with so many suppliers, Beales and Austin's have such a large inventory to satisfy most people, so only the collector or the curious would want to bother with ordering roses from the Continent. However, there is one that I have not tried so far, but really want to give them some of my business, because they have an excellent website, everything is clear and precise, their FAQ section tells me all I need to know, payment is simple by Paypal or Card... and their delivery charge is very small and covers the entire order for container roses. They also have a good selection of roses that I cannot get here, from all the major breeders, like Guillot, Kordes, Tantau.. etc.. They are actually a Swiss nursery that sends out from near Bremen in Germany, called Lubera.. they also supply via Amazon. A quote from their FAQ: ''You are a Swiss nursery - where do the English texts come from on your homepage? As mentioned, we write and speak English. But honestly not as good as the texts that are posted on our website. We work with a professional translator who specialises in horticulture and helps us with our English''. They really deserve my business, I do hope to order something from them this season. I wonder if anyone here has already ordered from them...?? Lubera...See MoreUser
