HAVE: Rooted Variegated Hoya kerrii cutting
Comments (5)Hi hiway_86, I see you have already traded your rooted cutting, but I was wondering if you would be willing to trade cuttings or we could start some more rooting and trade later? I have 2 hoyas and they are pictured here on a post that I made last winter to get an ID for them http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/hoya/msg0212012131436.html?7 Thanks and lmk if your interested, Catrina Here is a link that might be useful: my hoyas...See MoreHoya Kerrii, rooted leaf?
Comments (2)I've heard it's POSSIBLE to get plants from rooted Hoya leaves, but I've never had it happen. I've rooted plenty of leaves, too. I think the deciding factor is whether you get some of the main stem with the leaf cutting. If not, your chances are nil, I believe. If a little of the stem comes with the leaf, I think the chances are greater. So my opinion has always been... set the leaf in with the rest of the plant and let it root, because they almost always WILL root. If it does nothing but sit there as a rooted leaf, nothing lost, nothing gained. If it grows, halleluja!! But don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed... Comments (28)The ugly markings that I get on mine, remind me that I seriously sunburned nearly all my plants when I brought them over here... I am mixed about what I think of this. Some of you will remember that I put two rooted plain green cuttings into a self-water pot, BEFORE I read that most of you keep this one significantly dryer. It is receiving less sun than before, but is out in the elements all the time, with wind and wild critters. I am pretty excited as one of my sleeping peduncles (which all this time I thought were air roots!) is developing and I should have a bloom in three or four weeks, if the creek don't rise, and I hold my mouth just so! I tend to do a lot of misting under the tree. I have epies, and mostly hoyas out there. The Epi society recommends daily misting to deal with heat, so I crank up the wand, and spray everything in sight! Two days after I made sure to get the Kerrie, two leaves up and showed black markings, like following veins. I backed off a bit spraying, the marks are still there, but not spreading. I am wondering if the 'orginal' environment does not have something like mountain elevation with lots of sun, and humitidy that could be tough to replicate. In the gallery there are awesome shots of blooming Kerriis... makes me really grumpy that this one is soooo tough to figure out. My v. Kerrii cutting spent the winter nearly dry to the bone, teeny cutting, potted up, behind someone else. Emptying the plant room in Spring, and Surprise! Poor thing. Still alive, still two leaves. No sign of three showing up any time soon. All I can offer is that it is a plant that can get seriously ugly!...See MoreHoya Kerrii Leaves Turining Yellow
Comments (6)As mentioned single leaf to a bigger size vine type plant is going to be a bit trying to difficult and will certainly test anyone's patents ( see pic below) There is a Hoya forum on houzz full of helpful information from some experienced people there as well You may want to ask about ( and read more ) soil ideas/ lighting situations and climatic indoor outdoor conditions info as all of these have a influence on how much and when to water your/her Hoya. I don't think yours is variegated like this one but it took nearly five years to get this from a single varigated hoya leaf, the mother leaf is no longer a part of the plant though and hasn't been for a while Pic of yours shows the same hoya non variegated in a soil that I don't use for any of my Hoya. Meaning it could very well be over watered but understanding that root rot can occur when soils stay to damp to long and also by an indirect/direct impact on other indoor growing conditions. Just to rehash the Hoya forum has better info than I can offer with some good people there with lots more ideas ( and maybe the patents ) for you as well....See MoreLaura F (z9FL)
