Getting a building back to code

Geoff Marsh

I've been asked to help on a project and I'm looking for some suggestions, it's a 16x20 tiny cabin that was being build under code and now they want to bring it to code. 2 major things need to be done. The stairs don't have enough head clearence (6'8" required) so we need to cut the 6x6 head bonker, add a dormer, and a post to hold the loft up. Since the loft is at an angle it does not provide structural support to the North wall (between the windows). I'd need to run this by the building inspector but if we were to add timber frame ties just to the open area would you think that would be enough? I'm open to other ideas and sketches. Thanks!
