My new dining table

Unfortunately my dining set was damaged by the water. The wood was starting to split. This was our first dining set we ever brought so it's lived a long life. I have been looking for a new table that would fit in the budget and that I liked. I happened upon this beautiful farmhouse table of solid Acacia wood with a distressed rustic finish that goes well with everything else. We also found some chairs we liked. I want to get different chairs for the heads but for now this is all we need and the price was right. The seats are distressed leather like bomber jacket leather.

It has what they call a burnt white finish like a white wash I guess? I have been seeing lots of furniture lately like this.
These are the chairs I want for the heads.

Comments (9)Sorry, Tish - I posted before reading your message. My urban kitchen/dining room colours are two of those taupe shades that you see everywhere now. Mine have a pinky tone to them, though, to go with the pinky backsplash tiles all over my kitchen. You can see one of the two wall colours in the photo I posted of the new table. In the kitchen I have an island that I built, painted a very light taupe colour, with two bar stools that are iron, with light taupe upholstery on the seats. Comments (5)I figured the wax would interfere with a new coat of poly. If I could be sure the wax would work, I'd rather use that. I don't have a very steady hand and there already were some apparent brushstrokes. Also, the white shows up only when daylight enters sideways through the windows - you can't see the milkiness in night chandelier lighting. The whole table looks shiny at night, as does parts of the table in daylight sidelighting, depending on where the light is hitting at the time. So right now it's part milky and part glossy. I think I'll try to even it up with fine steel wool and no wax, then decide. The sanding that I did so far with the 600 grit was pretty easy, so maybe the steel wool won't require more elbow grease than I have....See MoreObsessing on my new patio dining table.
Comments (10)My husband says that it is the color of old copper. I am not getting the spelling right, but veridis or something like that. For those who don't know. My husband and I build furniture for other people. Very high end stuff. We can not afford our own stuff. we can't afford the materials . So normally we make do with out, or we scarf something from goodwill, the metal junkyard, or craigslist. We have furniture made of all sorts of junkyard trash that has been repurposed. It is a case of the cobblers kids without shoes. The chairs came from HEB while we make chairs for the Neiman Markus catalog. HEB is stepping up for us. This table came out well. Comments (24)My favorite ones were purchased at a discount store, they have a needlepoint texture, and are mostly black with a big, jolly snowman wearing a red hat and a green scarf. Needless to say, they are not used everyday, but I love getting them out each year. They make me smile. And, they are indestructible. We have one set of Chilewich, which are handy dandy but boring. We have an old, old set of woven ones, from PB, I think. They need to be repurposed, I am no longer enjoying them as placemats as they are so faded and also brown. Last year I bought these from Spoonflower. And they make my heart go pit-a-pat, but they stain easily. It could be my fault. They offered a choice of three fabrics, linen cotton blend, cotton sateen, and cotton canvas. I chose the cotton canvas, I dont know if that is the problem....See More- 9 years ago
