anyone ever seen a citron?
Comments (18)My tree is in a 15 gallon pot. it is a plastic pot and the rim has disintegrated completely off. Re-potting is more of for looks, not because the tree needs it. I'll have to think it through before I do it. The BH survives in Z5 because I'm lucky enough to have a small greenhouse for the winter. Toni, I'll go through my pics to see if I have one of the BH and passiflora from this summer. It was a nice sight. I had a bit of a hard time seperating them to bring them in for the winter. The passaflora isn't too happy at the moment, so if it doesn't survive I may not be able to recreate the same combination this coming summer, but I'm hopeful. I did buy another, just in case. It is happily growing in my living room, but it is a small vine at the moment. I keep the greenhouse on the cool side, but I did bump the temp to a little over 62 degrees to get some trees to re-grow dropped leaves....See MoreZucchini candy recipe
Comments (42)I was surprised by the small yield a batch gave. The zucchini sure gets a lot smaller! Of course I did eat a few (many) when I was checking on them and turning them :) I did not get all the seeds removed on a few strips and they were very flimsy after cooking and were not even put onto the drying trays (ate them, too) Guess there are some reasons for my low yield in addition to the tremendous reduction in size from drying. I doubt anyone who eats the finished product would guess they are made from zucchini. I added a quarter teaspoon of citric acid to the sugar used near the end of the drying time. It made them a lot like the sour gummy treats you can buy. I'm sure these treats are not very nutritious, but it is fun to see how much the zucchini can be transformed with a few readily available ingredients....See MoreWhen to start fruitcake
Comments (15)There's also the clipping feature available to members, though I prefer to save favorite threads to my computer. I'm guessing that most critical info that's dropped off has either been re-posted somewhere along the line or is available via members' own collections. I know many of us are happy to re-post "lost" or inaccessible recipes. I have a friend who for years has reserved Columbus Day for her fruitcake-making. I'm not sure why, but it's become one of her cherished traditions. If you're not planning to soak your fruitcake in liqueur of some sort there's really no particular value in making it ahead except the convenience of having it on hand (frozen perhaps). I happen to like fruitcake with candied fruits, but the quality of the candied fruit makes a big difference. I'm not "into" the chopped-up mixture that comes in the little plastic containers. In the candied fruit department I'm amongst the citron-haters. You're either for it or agin it, like cilantro. I think it was Mrs. Bartholomew who posted a luscious version using her own homemade candied fruit. That was some time ago, but I do have the recipe for anyone interested. In fact I'm happy to share any of those recipes from previous threads. Carol...See MoreFruit Cake
Comments (23)I don't mind fruitcake and have enjoyed some very much. But with mayonnaise??? OMG - I'm sorry, to each their own, but that just sounds awful to me. Of course, I don't like mayonnaise anyway, at all, so I'm sure that colors my opinion. But on fruitcake - oh no. Haha. As I said, to each their own. We all have different tastes. I, too, dislike the citron. Other than that a nice piece of fruitcake, plain please, can be very nice....See MoreJohn 9a
