Well, y'all, I have some good news & some bad news. The bad news is that 2 out of the 5 plants pictured above that I transplanted last night are dead as a doornail. This is one of the reasons why I normally don't pot them up at this stage. I like them to form a somewhat firm root ball first. That way, when I transplant them, 2/3 of the potting mix doesn't fall off the bottom. It was not easy to do those 5 above. I had to let that part fall off the bottom, then form the best hole that I could (only having a little bit of soil in the bottom of the new pot cuz I want to bury the plant deeper). Then, put the rest of what was in the cup, plant & all, in the new pot. One of them I broke the main stem, so I figured it for a goner, but the other one had no reason to die. =( I don't know what happened with it. This is kind of making me rethink potting the other 15 up to the 1 gallon containers. I think I may just do the 5 that are really tall/somewhat leggy & wait a week or two for the others (since I now have my good news)... The good news is that I bought the 8.5 inch nickel colored clamp-able light fixtures Dave recommended above! =) I also got the Daylight CFL's too (75 watts, I believe). So, i'm going to get my light setup going here in a few, maybe pot up those 5 plants, then go from there (depending upon how tired I am after that...lol). Wish me luck with the next 5, maybe I won't loose any of them. The 2 I did loose are no big deal cuz I am growing wayyyyyyyyyyy too many extras this year. ;-) It just drops the count of Wisconsin 55 seedlings I have down to 3. Anyways, i'll take some pics of the lighting setup & post them later! =) Also, thanks for the suggestions, teauteau & lilydude. I think I will close the heat vents in the room for sure. I came down here to take a break from the heat in there. It feels like a sauna with the heating mat going on the germination station, the sun blasting through the 2 windows all day & the heat having been on recently. I should go outside & plant these flower bulbs I bought for my daughter before doing more work up there as it's beautiful out today! 60 & sunny! Later - Steve

Ha! "Lugubrious" ! I had to look that one up! Chelone, you bring new words to my vocabulary frequently. LOL I like 'words' so that is good, and it rolls off the tongue nicely. ;-) When I got up this mornng I was more flexible than 'normal' (probably due to the 2 sessions of meds...one before bedtime, and one at 4 AM). As I was washing up before preparing breakfast, my mind went back to my childhood and how I greeted the morning with anticipation and joy. I recalled how , as a small girl, I would arise after mama was up, and slip out the side door to go around to the front door and knock! I don't think I did it very often [I hope not, :-)]. I don't recall mama getting upset at me, so it must not been very often. Anyhoo...how I would love to be able to greet the day with such a childish anticipation. Pm2, I accepted your announcement with no doubt that it was true. Such a thought never entered my mind. :-) Ah yes...I should have known it is a lupine. I love them but they will not grow here. I think it is because our soil is too acid. Ei was so kind in sending me a lot of her saved seed. They came up nicely, but soon expired without blooming. It sounds as though you have too many health woes to cope with, without having to be burdened with mine also! It is true....most everyone has their aches and pains....they are just differant, and (hopefully) not permanent. I guess I ought to check out my magnesium level? I do love nuts, but have to be careful how many and what kind I eat because of my gallbladder. :-( I have been known to tell my friends that I am defective merchandise, and need to be returned to the factory! Tee hee, Marie, occasionally my bed has to wait to be made because Tommy is on it, but that is okay, I have become rather slack at getting to it anyway. That is a good looking group of kitties. The one in the middle looks a little annoyed. :-) I do not think I could tolerate a cat drooling in my ear! Tommy prefers to cuddle up to my back. I like that. Thank goodness, no skunks in our house, but Nolon used to see one in his shop. It was 'tame' and never a problem. I love classical music, and have several albums. I had a bad bout with moths a few years ago. I did use the moth traps, and have been free of them for some time. I usually put flours and other foods that attract them in the freezer, but have not used that freezer since our icestorm. Fruit flies and tiny ants are what are plaguing me now. The fruit flies have not been bad so far this year. I make a trap for them, with cider vinegar in it. Kathy, sorry about your bad dream, and oversleeping, but happy that you got understanding from my links. As for moving my plants out, it will not be until the end of this month. I'd rather be late doing it than too early. It isn't likely Tim will be here at that time. Ha! I didn't think of Fred Flintstone or George Jetson....I thought of Star Trek. All right. I think I like this. The old sink window stays put. The other window gets moved right next to the old one - (I did this in my bathroom and love it!! ) Fridge - since this is an interior wall - I can recess no problem. Even better... this particular wall is about 7.5 inches deep because it houses a big pipe - I assume sewer pipe? and that is very close to the corner where it meets the exterior wall. I can gain these two inches behind the fridge PLUS .5 inches minimum when swapping plaster for drywall... and then can recess the fridge a few inches into the wall. My fridge is 31" deep without the handle (32" with the required back clearance) - so I can get this fairly close to flush with the front of the pantry. The way the hinges are, I can have the door flush with cabinets. The doors can swing open fully without crashing into anything and the close corner on the U ends up being a very close set down space. Pantry - I have up to 36 inches here. I was thinking of having 2 15" pullouts and a 5 inch broom pullout against the wall... Each of these could be pulled out all the way without crashing into the dishwasher cabinet.. and since they are accessed from the side anyway, the small area in front may not be a problem since we wouldnt really stand there anyway, other than to reach in for the broom. I have about 25" of clearance to pull them out and could possibly gain 2 or 3 more if I can take a few inches off the back of one or two of them (that pipe) Do I need drywall behind a floor to ceiling cabinet with a solid wood back? Right now I am really leaning toward Ikea boxes with custom fronts for the base and pantry cabinets. - I read that 2-3 inches of the back of these are empty space anyway. Dishwasher on the end - would be out of the way other than if someone needed access to pantry or fridge. I really dont think this would be a big problem - we dont usually load or unload while someone is cooking. Sink is centered with the two windows. Range is centered with set down space on both sides Peninsula is now prep area - which wasnt my first choice but could be nice. Would prep sink go on end or in corner? I see very separate zones - with them flowing nicely ... prep to cook, to cleanup... cons - Set down space for fridge and pantry is not near the prep area. Dish storage is not above dishwasher. Peninsula becomes main prep area. would need a prep sink. Would not work well to have lower counter height on peninsula. Just had another idea.. but here are these pics for now! :)

Although you can find information on-line about a yellow Grewia, I've never seen it in a nursery. Lavender starflower, the light purple Grewia, however, is easy to find. There are no named cultivars. It will become freestanding with age, but to start out, it needs a wall or a fence to lean on, but no need for a trellis, if you have a wall. It can also be grown as a shrub, if staked for a while at first. It is super simple to grow. At my old house we had a hedge which ran the length of the yard. Part of the hedge ran along the watered vegetable garden and part of the hedge ran along the unwatered part of the yard. Some of it was in full sun, some of it was under a 50' pine in full shade. The Grewia hedge was completely uniform; water, no water, sun, shade, it didn't matter. It's also sterile, so no seedlings -- wikipedia informs me that the berries have to pass through a monkey before they'll sprout. No insect pests either. I currently have a single plant growing in 1'x2' bed surrounded by concrete (who designed that?) and it's fine too. From time to time in the summer I empty the dog's water bowl on it.
