Are you quilting this weekend? Jan. 4-6
Comments (29)Rita, you've finished a 2ND postage stamp top? You are now officially my hero! I've been saving scraps, trimming, and sewing blocks for a couple of years now in hopes that I'll one day have enough done to put together one postage stamp quilt. I think it's just amazing that you've finished two! MLinda, I'm with you. I just printed off the tutorial for those granny squares and might make a block today. So far this weekend I've finished and packaged up two birthday blocks for the exchange. The first was a magic tricks block, and the other was quilters choice done in blue, so I made one of blue strips going various ways in sets, framed in more blue. The next two blocks for the birthday exchange are basic star patterns, so I think I'm going to get ahead of the game and make those today. Then I want to work on my sister's lonestar quilt, which I had to start all over because the points came out a bit wonky in my first attempt. That wasn't a total loss though, thankfully! I'm going to use it to make pillows, which will coordinate with the quilt. Look at me sewing like a rock star! (yep, I love watching Anne Burrell on the foodnetwork) Yesterday I bought a new-to-me sunflower-themed table runner kit while at a local quilting shop, so depending on how the day progresses, I may get into that as well. And of course, now that Sandra has me interested in the granny squares, I may try that one out today as well! Good thing I'm off and able to relax today, eh? Lol! -Dan...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? Jan. 3-5
Comments (14)We just got home late yesterday from the Alabama U.S. Space and Rocket Center. I got 1 granny square quilt block hand pieced New Year's day while on the RV trip. I spent the rest of the trip crocheting blocks for an afgan. And I expect I will be doing more of both this weekend, and maybe browse the new quilt book, Sylvia's Bridal Sampler, and see what blocks I would like to make. And I need to start planning the border for my parents' queensize Card Tricks quilt now that hubby got me a 6.5" x 24" quilt rulerfor Christmas for this project, so will be 6" border with 6" x 6" squares in the corners, ... since the quilt is so busy I think I will do the border sides in forest green and the corners in country blue. Right now am tackling the mountain of laundry - towels, sheets, quilts, clothes - from the RV trip. We did not get any snow, granted we rarely, rarely do, but I can dream. LOL I doubt we get any snow this year. Hope everyone has a wonderful 2014. Best to you and yours, Sandra...See MoreWhat are you quilting this weekend? 7/31-8/1
Comments (4)I have been sewing like a bandit all weekend. I hate to have time constraints as it takes some of the fun out of things but I have to get this top finished and out to the long arm quilter in the morning. I'm making a Wizard of Oz themed quilt for a very good friends birthday and I'm flying out to TX next week to bring it to her!! I picked up a bunch of cute fat eighth bundles last summer and knew right away who I would be using the fabric for. Problem is after i opened the bundles last month I didnt like the way the fabrics looked together. Since the fabric is discontinued I hopped online to ebay and bought another 10 yards in 4 different colors!!! I also made 3 different blocks and changed the configuration twice!! I'm finally happy with the outcome and I'm sewing my rows together, in between reading here!! Its going to be a long night!!!...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? Dec. 6-8
Comments (22)Mid-week the ballast burned out in one of my laundry room lights where my sewing desk is, but all laundry room lights are on the same switch, so I did not get lights back on until Friday afternoon, so did not get any sewing done during last week as I had planned. Friday evening I did laundry and helped my son start his science project. Then Saturday finished laundry, helped my son finish his science project, decorated the Christmas tree and decorated the house for Christmas. Went to church this morning. Now am fixing to start making 1 of the 2 saw tooth star pincushions I have left to make for Christmas presents. Hoping this week to get organized and fill out Christmas cards. I also have my brother's scarf about 25% done so depending on when my side of the family gets together I may be able to finish his scarf for this Christmas, we'll see, if not I will put it away until next year. Still have a little Christmas shopping to do, not looking forward to being in stores packed with people all in a hurry. M-I-L flies out of town right before Christmas and she normally prefers to do all the cooking, so I am trying to get meals/cooking organized for me to do while she is gone, simply stuff like tacos, and steak/rice/gravy, pizza, etc. I am feeling a little last minute and rushed this Christmas season. And the house has a draft to it with all this freezing weather, luckily we did not get any ice, but the highs are only like low 40's ... brrrr! And I am trying not to get sick, though am reaching for kleenexs a little more frequently than would like, really hoping I am not sick over the holidays. Quiltnhen the snow looks beautiful, something we have not had since 2010. Hope everyone is safe and warm this week.
