Just bought Dyckia...

Hello,today I bought a Dickie 'grape jelly' plant,thinking it was a succulent since it was sitting among some succulents & cacti.i was surprised to learn that it is a brom.question:just how low can outdoor nighttime temps go?i live where it can get to 20 degrees at night right now .l found this at a nursery where it can get down to 28 degrees.any help would be very appreciated!

Sorry for the late reply, and welcome Maria (I'm assuming you are new?) I'm not a brom expert, but I'll give it a go. Supposedly the most cold tolerant brom if I read right. Most sites say it thrives in dry climates with temperatures as low as 20 degree F. Hates lingering water during the cold season (beware of rot), so a fast drying soil mix would be advisable. During this cold time you should probably take it into the house before it gets dark, just to be on the safe side to avoid colder than usual temperatures and especially the rain. Drought tolerant species, so don't water it too much until it gets warmer. Likes water during the warmer months. A full sun lover. Hope this helps.

Hi there,yes I'm new to this forum.thank you for replying.i decided to put it in my converted shed.it has large porch slider facing south.lowest temp 41 degrees. I think it will do ok in there.thanks again! Happy New Year!

This zebra efect or stripes are quite common on Dyckias. In nature we have one form of Dyckia goehringii that does this and it is difficult to be spoted among lichens on the stony place they live. Another Brazilian native species and almost unknown is Dyckia racemosa from Mato Grosso. It has clearly two forms one totally silver and another striped. Hybrids do that once in a while. Hi, and thanks, trendtown. Replacing the countertops is not in budget - they are almost new granite, just a pretty awful color - I think they were budget or just different taste 😱 Cabinets are really nice, and while I did a remodel in another house about four years ago - repainted cabinet uppers in BM White Dove (Advance) and lowers in gray - and they still look great, Advance very forgiving, and leveled so well, you can't tell they were brushed unless you carefully examine. Walls were BM Pale Oak, but we wish we had gone White Dove on the walls, too. All trim was White Dove. Big focus will be lighting changes - very inexpensive now using the 4" clip in LEDs while daisy chaining them - attic access not even required. If we did go with White Dove eggshell walls, and White Dove semi gloss trim (BM is a bit shinier than SW), would it be too monolithc?
