After remodel my plantation shutters are too long - advice?

My home flooded in August and the 5 windows that had plantation shutters in them had water about 12 inches on the bottom of them. They cleaned off really well with a few spots where the paint is peeling. Now that we have moved back into the home, we put the shutters into the window frame and they are too long - which puzzles us as the windows are the same exact size. The only conclusion we have come to is the contractor used a thicker board for my window sills, however they look the same. My question is can these shutters be trimmed in order to fit the windows? They are fine for the width. I've contacted the company that I purchased them through (The Louver Shop) but haven't heard back from them yet, hoping it is due to the Holiday and they aren't just blowing me off! Wanted to know if anyone had any experience in trimming shutters. Some are real wood and 3 of them are faux wood.
