Towel bars or towel hooks??? Help!
Comments (23)Is there any reason not to use robe hooks instead? Many of them look better to me, but they also need to hang onto the towels. The white rubber tip is ingenious, but I'm thinking about how they look when empty (these would be for guests, they could also use them to hang up their clothes when showering.) I have also thought of sewing the loops on the towels, but it seems like that would make them hang even more compressed, and less likely to dry. But in our climate, if you stay so long your towel smells moldy, it is probably time to go home! (But I have lived places where that seems to happen almost immediately, so your mileage may vary) Are some shapes better than others for keeping the towels on? At my in-laws, they fall off before you even turn around, so it's something I'm sensitive to....See MoreHouse guests and white towels - they won't use them!
Comments (57)Well, likely a mixture of reasons, but I think Hhireno hit on a signfiicant one with "I put a mix of colors out so each guest will know by color which is their towel." That was actually my first guess, although worry about discoloring sounds very likely for some also. But guests may feel less secure about hanging on to their own towels in another's home, especially with other guests there, and knowing the pink towels are theirs would be a way of keeping track. Our last guest in our single-bath vacation home, a single gentleman, was scrupulous about keeping the wine-colored set I put out for him separate, but strangely free about using my bath towel to dry his hands, instead of the hand towel by the sink. Greyish discoloration on my white bath towel is how I learned his mother didn't finish housebreaking him before he flew off. He hasn't married yet either. I started changing the hand towel scrupulously every day, instead of every other. (And removed our bath towels). This is a good reason in my mind for doing all white, but next year it'll be paper hand towels regardless....See MoreShould I extend shower or leave space for freestanding tub & towel bar
Comments (16)does your bathroom have another heat source? if not, i'd say i'd still want a heater for the odd chilly morning. my shower is in RI and having the ceiling heater (as well as the central heating) keeps us from having to turn up the heat for the whole second floor 'to get it to run' while showering....See MoreMore lake house decorating advice needed
Comments (12)Sorry, I left out the back story assuming everyone was bored with it. The general idea is that it was built in 1965 so is somewhat in the style of MCM (slab door cabs, shape of the building), but not strictly. Until a month ago, walls were dark fake wood panelling so it seems super light to me now (finally!). The original counter was rotting, so we took the opportunity to do a mini reno with pretty much no budget (hence the mismatched cabs and appliances). Took down a half wall to make the peninsula. Counters will be light wood. My comfort zone style-wise is pretty neutral and nothing too over the top (2nd pic is our main home kitchen and is indicative of my neutral style). Love the idea of a basket on the fridge- I am in love with the sisal baskets available everywhere right now. I'd just been looking at some for towel storage. I was just reading on another thread about MCM whites being less grey and more warm, but generally I'm just thinking not too cool or stark. Maddielee, Capitol White is on my list and I think that came from seeing your pic. Here are the stools. I'm hoping for something that fits under the counter as the space is really tight also trying to keep most of the wood tones light to go with what is already there. Inspiration photos: obviously a classic case of champagne taste on a beer budget :)...See Moremaddielee
