Comments (111)Lien laws vary by state, but my general rule is that you should not give final payment to the GC until he provides you with signed lien release forms from all subs, precisely because the subs can file liens against your house even if you pay the GC in full but he fails to pay the subs. You contracted with the kitchen company, and they hired the sub that did the faulty work, so the kitchen company is ultimately responsible for the quality of the work. Assuming you have not already paid the kitchen company in full for whatever you owe them, I would inform them that you are withholding payment in an amount equal to the full cost of the counters until they provide you with a signed lien release from their sub (it is between them and the fabricator what financial arrangement they come to to get the release signed) as well as properly installed counters. In other words, don't pay until you get exactly what you are paying for plus a lien release from everyone....See MoreCambria Torquay pics please! Considering canceling my Silestone
Comments (47)Doing a small powder room with 2x6 pearl marble subway pattern on walls up to 40" topped by a marble mini brick border and marble chair rail. I'd prefer Not to use a marble floor because its at the beach . I have found this carrera look porcelain that works though its a tad whiter , I would use grey grout . Should I get the real marble floor or look for a different porcelain , I really don't mind the upkeep on the walls but would rather not worry about countertop and floor as its a heavily used bath . as for countertop , on the white 30" vanity , shall I use torquay or a plain white quartz . ? thanks for input . For the record my friend rented a beach house wilth all carrera countertops and was given a 2 page list of all things to avoid , she ended up covering the entire countertop w placemats for the month rather than worry about what would stain or etch them ....See MoreCambria Newport vs. Torquay
Comments (9)I somehow missed the replies to this thread but here is an update (and I am still as confused as ever). There are several slabs of Torquay in from our distributor. However, the Newport, which I finally settled on and was excited about, won't be in until spring. The plant that distributes the Newport got new machinery, from what we were told and so they are behind. I went to the warehouse which we've been working with and looked at the slabs of Torquay. I just couldn't get excited over them like I had been in the past. I guess I had talked myself out of it and now they are an option again. Additionally, I found a beautiful slab of green granite called Coast Green and I fell in love. It would be a totally different look from what I had in mind so as I said before, I am just as confused as ever. Do any of you have new pictures of Torquay to post? My kitchen is a farmhouse kitchen with a farmhouse sink. The walls are a light seafoam green and our cabinets are white with glass knobs. We also have some beadboard around the island. My plan is do go with a white subway tile backsplash. Any advice or suggestions? Any input on the beautiful green granite verses the Cambria Torquay. Newport is definitely out now. Thanks!!!...See MoreMSI Quartz: Cashmere Carrara vs. Calacatta Vicenza OR Cambria Torquay
Comments (14)We've had MSI Arctic White for over 18mos now. I love it. Haven't had any scuffing, scratching, or staining issues. Damp paper towel takes most everything off. I use Clorox Wipes for coffee rings or berry "ghosting" and give it a good general wipe down 2x per week. We looked at a lot of the quartz "marble" looking options, but someone made a comment that the veins either look fake or resemble (leg) spider veins. After hearing that, I can't "unsee" it! ha! The plain white has been a perfect backdrop for adding color and texture elsewhere (grout, wood cutting boards, walls, etc.). I also find that I like seeing exactly how dirty the counter top is (so I can wipe it off)!...See MoreCambria
